Life Energy

Life energy is the energy that makes it possible for the Clándhia to use magic. It does flow through every being in Degheich and in the Human world, but only the Clándhia have the genetic ability to channel the life energy into magic abilities. When magic is done, life energy is being used up. Life Energy is being meassured in a unit called ticks.

The "tick-system"

The system was developed by testing how long a small flame could be steadily produced by a Clándhia. It is one of the easiest spells and therefore used as a base line. The more time goes on while summoning, the more ticks are used up. More difficult spells use up more ticks in a shorter time span.

Every Clándhia has around 100 ticks of life energy. The amount can wary depending on the person, but usually there is a minimum of 80 ticks and a maximum of 120 ticks. For a trained Clándhia that has solid control over their powers, everything up to using 50 ticks in a short time is completely fine and has no consequences for the individual. When an amount between 50 and 75 ticks are used, the consequence is usually exhaustion. Between the 75 and 90 ticks used, the results can be bleeding from for example the nose of even fainting. When more than 90 ticks of life energy are used up in a short amount of time, there is a high risk of going into a coma or even dying.

Life energy can be transferred between people or stored in Skaosium. Casting spells can be compared to an exothermic chemical reaction. That means that there is always a small amount of life energybeing lost in the process. This is also why there is a silver glow around the source of a spell (for example a persons hands while summoning).

Recuperating

Life energy can be replenished by resting for an appropriate amount of time. The more energy has been used up, the more rest the person needs. But recuperating does not necessarily equal sleep. After someone has replenished their ticks of life energy, they often need additional sleep to rest their body.

During the recuperating process, the person is in a deep sleep, almost comparable to a coma. In that state, the person is completely defenseless and can only be awaken prematurely through medical means. But a normal Clándhia does only go into a state of recuperation after excessive use of magic.
