Doriel was a human at one point, he held power as a low lord in Daval, when his lands failed to produce Ser Orbiel Thrune sent for him bringing him to Jeda and threating his life for failing. After this, he was forced to sign a contract of undeath that would ensure he would spend eternity after death working to make up for his failed crop.
Later he would consolidate his earnings and form a small fishing village named Raveton, the village would rapidly grow to a town. Other lords would send workers to Raveton attempting to compensate for failing crops and bad weather with resounding success. Betraying the other lords, he took this yield to Jeda and delivered it saying that half was for Ser Orbiel and the other half for the war. The amount fulfilled three years' worth of tribute and claimed the knight's respect, however, these actions earned the ire of the other lords causing them to burn his family alive and hang him. The contract still valid Doriel awoke as a vampire after he fell unconscious on the noose, regaining his former strength by a factor of ten he slaughtered the other low lords and received a message from a courier a few days later naming him Reln of Raveton.
