Buomman

During the rise of the Illithid Empire, the once wide-ranging Buomman fled to the Astral Plane. There, they took refuge in the corpses of the dead gods. By replacing their speech with a special pattern of humming, they created a resonance with the lingering power within the ancient corpses, hiding them and their homes from psionic detection. The stronger a non-Buomman's connection with psionic power, the harder it is for them to detect the Buomman settlements.
The typical buomman is quiet, withdrawn, and deferential. Though they appear capable of understanding languages, they "speak" no tongue other than Buommi.
Most Buomman keep to themselves, for fear of attracting attention and being enslaved by the Illithid like the Fraal and Gith were. However, some have begun to show compassion towards escaped slaves of the illithid, hiding them from illithid pursuit and giving them a safe base to launch raids from.
