Moonstone

She woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. A horrible feeling found itself rooted in her chest. Something had happened... or maybe was going happen. She didn’t know, but she had to figure it out. Her pale toes touched the wooden panels as she slipped of the big bed. It was pitch black in her room, but it didn’t bother her. She knew the whole place inside and out, so even if she wouldn’t have had her night vision, she could find her way.
"If you're ever worried about something big, just tell me and I'll do everything to help you. Any time."
The words echoed in her head. Her friend always had time for her, even though he was busy in the Academy. As a captain he didn't have time for small endeavors, but he was clear that he could, and would, always get time off to help her clear things up. She lit a candle and picked up a paper scroll and some pens. Carefully, she wrote a letter begging for help. When she sent away the carrier bird the sun had started shooting its’ rays of light. Her friend would get the letter in the evening of the same day, but for her it would take more than two whole days on horseback to get there. Outside her window the people of the city were starting to wake up. She should set out now to get as far as possible before nightfall.

“Hey, Cass!” someone shouted at her. “Where are you going? Isn't it too scary for you to go out like this alone?”
Cassandra turned around. Caleb, her former tutor, walked towards her with firm steps. Even though he might look quite cozy and innocent, Cass had learned the hard way that he had a different side. When she came to the city as a three-year-old orphan, Caleb was a teenager who got the exiting assignment to help train her. He hated it at first, but after a year or so he changed and started treating her like his little sister. They teased each other a lot and played around on the courtyard, which was a good way for Cass to foster the vampire traits she had gotten from one of her parents. Soon her footsteps barely made any sound and she could see in complete darkness like it was daytime. Caleb was one of the closest things to family she had now.
“Don't worry, brother. I'm going over to my other family for a while. I just hope that you won't miss me too much.”
She swung up on her horse and blew him a kiss. He stuck out his tongue in response, but let her go. She was capable of taking care of herself now. She had been for a long time. It was just nice having her around.

Cassandra rode out from the city. It was a busy day with many travelers accompanying her on the road. Many of them followed her all the way to Surusus. It was a big city, the biggest one in the north. It had its own Academy, mostly focused on water and mountains. Both of her friends worked there. She had met them when she was younger while visiting the Academy. She had often been sent there to study and train with the soldiers, to learn new techniques. One of the soldiers had helped her with sparring. Cassandra smiled as she remembered how flustered the young boy had become when she had easily bested him. He found her in the food court later and had introduced himself.
“Hi. You’re the girl who I sparred with, right?” He tilted his head like a little puppy. “I'm Lloyd, by the way.” He awkwardly sat down beside her at the table and stretched out his hand. “What's your name?”
She shook his hand. “Cassandra, but you can call me Cass.”
They talked a lot, and quickly became friends. Lloyd showed her around and told her stories of stupid things he had done in the strangest places. He also introduced her to his friend and captain: Silas Teilon. He was an intimidating sight for Cass the first time she saw him; tall and strict with a face seemingly of stone, adorned with a nasty scar running down his left side. She remembers asking Lloyd how they could be friends, he was so kind and playful, while this Silas looked like the most boring person she'd ever seen. He giggled, but didn't tell her.

This is a story originally written for my Swedish class when I was around 14 years old (we were going to write a fantasy story), and the first bit of this version was rewritten in my English class when I was 17.
Updated whenever I have time/inspiration to haha
