Port City of Deluv

Demographics

The city counts with an astounding human mayority, being at least 50% of its inhabitants, counting with a couple of minotaur colonies that range from 15-20% of the population, and the rest a mix of of Lizardfolk and Keldoren in the surrounding bay areas. The ethnic origin of the human mayority is very mixed, with almost all glauchs and bretons, wih a couple thounsands hrismarians, mostly sons of merchants and victims of viking raids.

Government

The city counts with the only human noble house in the entire world, so its goverment is rather weak thanks to outside pressure and anti human sentiment. thanks to that, a merchant class of citizens took hold of the city, since nobody payed taxes to the local feudal lord, and he is nable to muster suficient forces to do something about the situation. Thanks to that, the Korkavand family dosnt have any real power since the year 26. In recent years, the family´s heir Kavilard Korkavand try to secure power for his family with a public display of power in the form of the Tournament of the Seven, but failed miserably, scaring potential allies. The city ruling council dosnt have a set religion, so as long as the diferent people pay a special tax they can worship who they want. Some Sea Lords derive a great amount of income with the worship tax.

Defences

The city counts with a local garrison of at least 15000 well trained soldiers. A number that only serves to protect the roads from marauding bands of bandits, but a reall raid its the doom of the city. It has happened in the past, bandits and warbands coming to the city to ransack the place, but the town itself has been rebuilt countles times. The Sea Lords had learned to have a more well trained militia at least, but the numbers dont add. So, they relye on mercenary troops, but each time they call them the price goes up, not having another alternative they acept the price...

Industry & Trade

The city itself dosnt have a lot of resources around it, the only really important things it has are: A wide variety of timbers, fish, and salt. The majority of its booming economy is thanks to its inhabitnats, almost all are manufacturers in sonme capacity. The city itself imports a lot of raw materials with its enormous fleet of ships so the merchants of the city can sell it all to the citizens, so they can later manufacture it and sell it at a higher price. The great majority of citizens are dyers, blacksmiths, jewelers, stonemasons, coiners, merchants, and the such, so the high value of the city is in its abilities, not the resources. Of course, such a thing is a big problem if for some reason the road or sea routes are cut for some reason, it can lead to city destroying famines and mass unemployment in just weeks.

Infrastructure

The setlement has a mayority of glauch people, so the grand majority of infraestructure is mountain based to acomodate their needs, having a complex sistem of sewers and roads to comunicate the cliff dwellings with the normal built city. The bay zones are the most opulent, populated with the rich merchants Keldoren, so is the most technically advanced part of the city, with the majority of temples there, having at leat four diferent pantheons for every citizen to worship. As a trade republic, the majority of public money goes to investment in roads and the trade fleet, so the roads are keept secured with the local small garrison and the ships are secured in a ten kilometer radious from the coast thanks to the fleet of th Sea Lords.

Guilds and Factions

The most driving faction in the economic boom of the city is the council of Sea Lords, the merchants of Keldoren origin who are masters of the sea, building the best ships in the known world, and being the best sailors among the mortal races. Patricians and bourgeois, these Sea Lords run at least 70% of the trade and thus, they run the city. Nobody can make busines here without their permision. The rest of the business are privately own by the citizens, not working directly or indirectly for the city ruling class, and the 8% is privately owned by the smallest faction, the Korkavand Noble House. although theyr are comparatively weak to the ruling class, its a noble house controling a good amount of the revenue of one of the most profitable cityes in the continent, so their holdings and money are substantial anyway.

History

After the Shattering War, were the five empires controlling the known world figth each other during ten years, the world was tired of war. Seeing as no side won any mayor victories, nor territory or resources from the conflict, they resolve in a white peace, and the diplomats and their entourage founded the city of Deluv to populated it with refugies of the war, and named a human noble house, in the style of the Edekhan Empire to rule the city as they see fit. This was the first mayor power move of humanity, that before that didnt have any real political power in the world, so a majority of humans populated the city in search of a new beginning.

Geography

The city is built on a peninsula, with a great variety of atolls surrounding it, wich the Keldoren population uses as homes and privately owned ports. Northward to the city there is a great swamp, with a great delta shattering it and the surrounding areas, the Delta of the Crack. This delta feeds with drinkable water the city, and serves as the only source of local food to the city, because the delta flows on a small mountanous path that the ethnic glauchs inhabit, and flows directly to the great swamp, so the fishes and other life forms flow through it, enough to feed a good portion of the population. One river flowing through the mountain paths is exploited by a water magician, making a spa with his water magics. Its the only place on earth in wich magic is used like that, bringing the animosity of other magicians for such vain used of magic, but the love of the people who can afford it.
