Guild employees—Ingredients procurers

Ingredient procurers are often overlooked yet they are essential employees of the rune guild without whom we would not be able to craft artefacts of the highest quality. All guild members will have to work with them during their career at the guild, and it is best to quickly forge a trusting relationship with them.

Responsabilities & skills required

Orders

  • Understand the orders given to them by their clients such as the rune guild
  • Interpret them correctly
  • Fulfil them with ingredients of the right quality.
  • Harvest

Find the ingredients in the wild, identify them properly, and correctly harvest them.   Failure could mean the death of the mages making use of these ingredients!

    Negotiate

When other procurers find rare or limited ingredients first:
  • Check them for correct identification & harvesting to guarantee their quality,
  • Negotiate the best price for the guild.
  • Ingredient procurers

    Defend

Defend themselves & their ingredient cargaisons from the dangerous plants, animals, & people.   Do not inconvenience anyone with having to deal with their corpse.

    Care

Care for the wild areas where the ingredients are harvested like the Garna Forest.   Ensure their sustainability & perennity and make sure we never risk running out of ingredients because of greed.

    Fight

Identify concerns with these wild areas & fight against them.   E.g. poachers, over-harvesting by greedy procurers, diseases & infections such as blue syndrome...

Current expert working with the rune guild—Monsieur Gilles de Nande

Monsieur Gilles de Nande is a top procurer working exclusively with the rune guild. He specialises in the Garna Forest and will always be sure to bring you back the best ingredients—so long as you are willing to put in the right price.   In addition to his own work, Monsieur de Nande also oversees the group of procurers employed by the guild on a contract-basis and coordinate their work so that all guild members' orders are suitably fulfilled. Stay in his good grace if you want to get your hands on quality ingredients!
    Guild members' opinions
What a sleazy guy. But he's the real deal beneath it all—just don't let him convince you to double the price you previously agreed on.
    Master Jean Lannoie

Ignore all of his showmanship and grandiloquence; he is surprisingly competent beneath it all, and even more shockingly, he can be trusted to always share the exact quality and harvest method of his ingredients.

This was a really interesting read. I recently attended a workshop put on by our local conservation corps, and we talked about how "market hunting" almost devastated the local ecosystem, until laws were put in place to bring back species on the verge of local extinction. These guys sound like something between the market hunters and the conservationists--in it for the money, but still concerned about the local enviornment.

Thanks :D Yes exactly. When so much of this world magic and technologies rely on "ingredients" like the fauna and flora of the forest, they have to be very careful about it.
