The Stormborn Pilgrimage

There comes a time in each Stormborn Acolyte's life where they must undertake the Pilgrimage of indeterminate length where they will gain worldly experience, practice the skills and values taught by the Stormborn Monastery, and prepare themselves for their evaluation before ascending to a full-fledged member of the Stormborn.   The pilgrimage begins when an Acolyte has finished all their base training at the Monastery as deemed by the present Stormcaller. There is no definitive end to the pilgrimage, each acolyte is instructed to return when they feel ready to face their final trials and finish their initiation. During the pilgrimage, acolytes travel all across Eleron, and even across the seas on occasion. Travelling in the wilderness and from town to town, Acolytes prove their skills by surviving the harsh perils the world has to offer, while lending aid and charity to the people they come across during their travels. During this time, Acolytes are also encouraged to spread the word of the Stormborn, and briefly cease their travel in a settlement for the duration of Stormfest, where they participate and encourage others to better themselves in the fires of competition, in line with their beliefs.   On occasion, a returning Acolyte passes their initiation but feels trapped by the life of a monk and heads out to continue their travel. These Stormborn are officially titled Pilgrims so long as they travel, but un-initiated Acolytes do not receive this title. Pilgrims are often responsible for spreading the word of the Stormborn and bringing in new recruits from farther afield than the settlements local to the Krigoth Mountains.   Success rates of the Pilgrimage vary, due to the informal time taken for it, and the focus on self-evaluation, some Acolytes gone for a decade may be presumed dead by everyone but the Stormborn, who officially refuse to recognise any of their Acolytes as dead until they are presented with a body. It is not uncommon for Acolytes to be gone for many years at a time, especially for the longer-lived races. The best estimation the Stormborn provide states that about 75% of their Acolytes return within a decade and that it is exceptionally uncommon for a returning Acolyte to actually fail their trials and have to return to the Pilgrimage. Accounts from Acolytes themselves indicate many over-prepare to avoid being one of the few failures, despite the Monastery's teachings enforcing that failure as a requirement for progression.

Stormborn Initiate

Up high in the Krigoth mountains lies the Stormborn Monastery, home to a monastic order dedicated to Kord, the god of thunder, storms and fighting. Acolytes come from all ages and walks of life, some being practically raised in the monastery, others joining later in life. During an acolytes training, they are required to leave the monastery and travel across the land to gain experience, wisdom and skills, required to return only when they believe themselves ready to face their final trials and complete their initiation.   Decide when your character joined the monastery and why they decided to train amongst the Stormborn, and chose to begin worshipping Kord. Note that while the Stormborn are all referred to as monks their ranks consist of a variety of classes, the most common being monks, druids, clerics and paladins, typically multiclassed, though not required.   Skill Proficiencies: Religion, Nature   Language Proficiencies: One language of your choice   Tool Proficiencies: Herbalism Kit   Equipment: A pouch containing 5gp, herbalism kit, set of monk vestements, a thick blanket and a holy symbol of Kord.   Feature: Warm Welcome The Stormborn are famed across the land for their fighting and magical prowess, and many rural folk are utterly in awe of those who come from their ranks. When amongst isolated and rural communities, your character is met with respect as people are honoured by your prescence, more willing to share their hospitality with you.
