Patrick MacQuarke's Travelling Wares

"Roll up, roll up to Patrick MacQuarke's Travelling Wares! I'm here, there, and everywhere!"
— Patrick MacQuarke
Everyone has seen covered wagons before. Everyone has seen travelling merchants before. Not everyone has seen said travelling merchant taking his covered wagon to the middle of ruins, the side of ravines, isolated mountain tops and other planes. The enigmatic halfing trader is never seen without his trusty wagon, pulled by a Giant Goat, with a full inventory far exceeding the capacity of any regular wagon. It can appear anywhere, anytime, with zero regard for how dangerous the area or situation it appears in can be.

The Wagon

The large wagon stands at 3.5ft by 7ft. Although earlier appearances of the wagon included a canvas-covered top, the wagon has since been upgraded to a full Ironwood body, resembling a wooden stall on wheels with a gable roof. One side of the wagon has a large window cut into the side with a wide sill, and the back wall has a small door just the right height for a 4" creature to use. A sign hangs off the roof reading in fancy script "Patrick MacQuarke's Travelling Wares."As the wagon is constructed of Ironwood, tough to break almost capable of acting like an armoured wagon, it also is impervious to fire.   While it has no obviously visible security measures, reports of failed thefts seem to indicate the wagon is both alarmed and trapped by magical means, and may or may not contain heavy crossbows capable of tracking and firing at an intrepid criminal, entirely unmanned.

How does it work?

While Patrick himself brushes off serious questions about the functioning of the wagon some of its properties appear simple enough. Inside the wagon is a display area where various goods of a particular category are displayed, Patrick can then use a hand-crank on the side of the wagon to roll in a new display with a different set of goods. One would presume this makes the wagon an extra-dimensional space of some sort to fit the excessive amount of displays it contains, and yet Patrick has been known to sell Bags of Colding from his wagon, without any of the usual explosive repercussions of fitting one extra-dimensional space inside another.   The origin of the wagon's ability to planeshift into the remotest and most ridiculous of places is unknown. Simply put the wagon seems capable of disappearing and reappearing in another location entirely, anywhere from busy market towns to underground complexes currently being cleared by adventurers.

The Catalogue

Due to the far-travelling nature of his wagon, Patrick has a unique catalogue system making use of a magic book he traded for several years ago. Interested parties only have to sign their Truename within the pages of the book, and they will telepathically receive the catalogue updating potential customers on new stock, read aloud by Patrick himself. Known for being a fairly loud man, there have been complaints about receiving the catalogue during the middle of the night.

The Proprietor

Patrick MacQuarke has been a merchant ever since he was a halfing youth, travelling from town to town on his goat-pulled wagon peddling his small collection of minor magic items and potions. Unfortunately he gained the attention of a particularly troublesome group of adventurers who repeatedly caused him strife, this involved a particular incident where Patrick's wagon was set on a rampage throughout the streets of Sien, ending up entirely destroyed with most of his stock missing.   Since then he has rebuilt his business from the ground up, now wise to the world (or so he likes to think) and his brand has grown successfully with multiple partnerships and constant business wherever he goes. But he is not a man that forgets easily and has ensured he's prepared if he ever needs to deal with troublesome customers again.

What's for Sale?

While the magic wagon contains a bit of everything including spices, textiles, clothing, stationery and food, it's far more noted for the items of a magical nature it contains. Patrick is known as a seller of enchanted weapons and armour, potions and other magic items varying in usefulness. Notable items include:   The Eversheathe: The Multitool of Weapon Transport™ - a magic sheath that changes shape to fit any weapon.   Miniscule Mallows: The Tiny Treat For Someone Sweet™ - enchanted marshmallows that once ingested reduce the size of a creature for an hour.   Haroden’s Bottomless Bag of Roasted Peanuts - exactly what it sounds like.   Powdered Rope - just add water!   The only regular magic stock is what his partners send him, outside of that he will buy and sell whatever magic items he can get his hands on, which may explain why the quality of his stock seems to fluctuate wildly.
