Programmable Intelligence - the Forged

The Behavior - part 1

Just like your brain thinks that you are real, each Forged thinks they are real too. The thought that they are living beings is core to their functions and abilities, otherwise they wouldn't come to the conclusion that they are able to move and control their bodies. This does not mean that a Forged breaks if they figure out that they were merely a creation, many of them live as full fledged members of society, debating whether being born through creation is any different (or worth less) compared to being born from biological means.

The Requirements

In order to program a manuaton (a Forged made for a single task), one needs two Command Crystals, for an automaton one needs at least three, but four is the legal minimum. Additional crystals might be needed for complex bodies, or deeper self actualization. It is highly recommended to have a clean work environment without interruptions, and a clear mind, - while programming a Forged.   While a Forged can certainly work without sensors, it is highly recommended to give them vision.

The Crystals

The current standard uses four types of Command Crystals. These crystals are made by Enchanting Blood Crystals: POWER, ACT, ASSERT, and CONTROL. For manuatons you need at least one POWER and one ACT crystal. An automaton is distinguished by having at least one ASSERT crystal. It is recommended that the central unit (the brain, the ACT and ASSERT crystals) be placed in places the Forged is not able to reach or access.

The Flow of Crystals

The Command Crystals, starting from the ACT crystals, will try to form a connection with other crystals through The Weave, creating what we call links, much like invisible veins in a body. Each crystal forms connections through a priority queue that is in order ACT, ASSERT, and POWER. The crystals cannot move "backwards" in the queue, however ASSERT and POWER crystals are able to form links to other crystals of the same kind. CONTROL crystals mask themselves as all types of crystals, with the highest priority and constantly register as new entities, to invade every link. The ACT crystals also form links to all sensors they can, more often than not linking through the whole body of the Forged so they feel touch and damage. The sensor links are always there, but are not included in the examples. The link logic is demonstrated below:

A standard manuaton with one POWER and one ACT crystal (sensor links included)

  (sensors) - ACT - POWER

The previous manuaton with a CONTROL crystal added

  ACT - CONTROL - POWER

A faulty manuaton with one POWER and two ACT crystals (both access all sensors)

  (sensors) - ACT 1 - POWER
(sensors) - ACT 2 - POWER

A standard automaton with one POWER, one ASSERT, and one ACT crystal

  ACT - ASSERT - POWER

A standard automaton with a CONTROL crystal

  ACT - CONTROL - ASSERT - CONTROL - POWER

A standard automaton with two ASSERT crystals

  ACT - ASSERT 1 - ASSERT 2 - POWER

A standard automaton with two ACT crystals (also called multi-linked)

  ACT 1 - ASSERT - POWER
ACT 2 __|

The previous automaton with two ASSERT crystals

  ACT 1 - ASSERT 1 - ASSERT 2 - POWER
ACT 2 __|

The previous automaton with a CONTROL crystal

  ACT 1 - CONTROL - ASSERT 1 - CONTROL - ASSERT 2 - CONTROL - POWER
ACT 2 - CONTROL __|

The Behavior - part 2

Now we are aware that a Forged can be upgraded by inserting more POWER, ACT, and / or ASSERT Command Crystals into it. If a Forged starts deconstructing other Forged in order to upgrade its own body, abilities, or consciousness, then we call it a Rogue Construct. Rogue Constructs with CONTROL crystals can be easily stopped, hence why constructing automatons without CONTROL crystals is deemed illegal by the World Council. If a Rogue Construct is highly valuable, instead of destruction, the process of de-asserting takes place, where all ASSERT crystals are removed from the automaton, converting it to a manuaton.
Sevius was conflicted when he saw the construct finish a perfectly cooked silkspitter egg.
  • I wonder, Aorin, how are you different from a necromancer?
  • Eh... I would never use a material as weak as flesh. And something as suboptimal as another dali's brain.

    Metaphysical, Arcane

This is a rad concept for a magic system! Well done! I could totally see a puzzle game based on this, even!
