Lord (lɔːd)
Lord is a noble title that is given or earned with controlling land. The Lord owns part of the settlement, and they collect rent from the properties on them. The land can be sold, and with the land the title also passes forward. A Lord that dies automatically gives ownership of their land to the Ruler (unless they have a will for their successor).
Appointment
Duties
Keeping their lands in as good condition as they can, and support the local citizen and guilds (otherwise they move somewhere else). Since their land binds them to a specific settlement, they also have the duty to vote in it.
Responsibilities
Paying a percentage of their taxes to the Ruler. They must also make sure that their lands are safe and well-protected.
Benefits
A percentage of the taxes collected go into their pockets, which enables them to live wealthy lives. They also have power over dali and guilds operating on their lands. Political power. After it's been given to them, their land can no longer be taken away from them, only bought.
Accoutrements & Equipment
A specific signet ring is given as a gift (uniform design to the other lords of the settlement), however it is not necessary to wear.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The title is lost if the Lord has sold their last bit of land, or in some other way no longer owns land.
