The Republic of Mitheach

Demography and Population

Magic is not illegal in Mitheach, but it’s...not cool, the same way it’s not cool to pass out drunk on your front lawn. People will frown at you and many will be less likely to do you favors. It’s considered messy and often lazy, as it’s often an easier way of doing things.

(This originated before the civil war, which was largely a war of the church and state against the rural farmers that were migrating eastward, away from the established schools of magic in Palopegai et al towards the more technologically oriented Zilindwelf- few Dabhogardians travel across the mountains, but the wandering dwarves often shared tricks and tools with the rural farmers of what became Mitheach.)

Due to this "arcanaphobia" in Mitheach*, innately magic races like elves and tieflings tend not to settle there. The population is made up primarily of humans and halflings, but they have no prejudice against other races, only individuals who actively use magic.

*a fear of magic is called rhabdophobia, but mageism gets a different word.

Religion

Agriculture & Industry

Since they have eschewed magic, the residents of Mitheach have developed technology to more efficiently farm larger fields. Some of this has been inspired by Zilindwelvish gearworks. The combination harvester, for example, is a mechanical construct that allows the owner to reap, thresh, and winnow grains all in one process.

Education

There are two colleges in Mitheach. The College of Sciences is located in Buckston, and the College of Bards is in Alemän.

Legislative Body
After seceding from Salonika in 4512, the people of Mitheach established an oligarchy known as the Chancery Council composed of six heads of governmental branches. The Lord High Chancellor is the figurehead of this oligarchy, and his role is more of a public relations official and debate moderator than an actual arbiter of law. He is elected by the rest of the Chancery Council: Lord Chancellors of the Basilica, the Treasury, Sciences, Foreign Diplomacy, and of The League of Aldermen. These positions are all lifelong terms, but can be abdicated so long as the abdicator swears to never return to Mitheach. A Lord High Chancellor appoints new Lord Chancellors in the event of an abdication or death, except for the Lord Chancellor of the League of Aldermen, who is elected by, you guessed it, the League of Aldermen. These officials are elected by the people of their townships and serve as the local judge (or Arbiter), but federally are only empowered to give suggestions and make requests of their Lord Chancellor.
Judicial Body
Local Arbiters are appointed by regional election and preside over disputes in their town. If the jurisdiction of a dispute is unclear, it is settled by the Lord Chancellor of the League of Aldermen, either in Noganon or during the Lord Chancellor's annual Arbitration Tour.
