Gharl the Black Character in D&D | World Anvil

Gharl the Black

Gharl is an ancient black dragon who lairs in the Sandserpent Mountain of Bharazad, specifically within the sprawling cave system named for the great wyrm: the Caverns of Gharl. He is by all accounts an extremely accomplished alchemist, with a particular talent for poisoncraft, though his expertise is only rarely given and much more commonly traded, purchased or stolen.   Gharl claims to have survived the fall of the ancient, long-lost draconian empire--an event hundreds of years past. In the post-imperial sands of eastern Bharazad, Gharl and his followers spend the daylight hours lurking in caves and emerge only from dusk to dawn lest their black scales bake beneath the eastern sun.

Followers

Most of Gharl's followers are black dragonborn belonging to the nomadic tribe the Wings of Gharl. They tend toward his talent for alchemy, herbology and poisons.

Gharl's Lair

The caverns of Gharl are one of the few passes through the Sandserpent Mountains which connect the nomadic dragonborn flights in East Bharazad to the more prosperous halfling and human colonies in West Bharazad, making the caverns a highly desirable choke-point overseeing a valuable trade route. Gharl's followers on the eastern side maintain control of the passage and rarely allow others to passage, preferring to maintain near-exclusive access to the treacherous pass.   Gharl himself notwithstanding, the caverns are rife with monstrous foes, from the hordes of Kruthik to the colossal purple worms common to the province.
