Pelopas: The Humanoid Inhabitants- Humans

The most prominent race of Pelopas are the humans who have lived there since time immemorial. They are of a dark complexion with dark hair, often adorning their eyes with kohl or tattooing themselves with pictures and symbols which can tell entire stories in their tongue. The humans are split between two main kingdoms. The southern lands of Egytos, and the western kingdom of Byzantios. They each worship the same pantheon but call each god by different names according to their language dialect. Their culture places heavy focus on a divine right of their kings and elites to rule as "they were placed their by Lorfingal" the patriarch of their pantheon. Another focus is the idea of an eternal afterlife where ones possessions that are buried with him may be brought. Some even go so far as to say that the body (which is mummified and extracted of many organs) is where the deceased persons personal heaven will be located. Certain rituals are thought to connect one to the world of a deceased and enable one to converse with the spirit, or to rob it of its knowledge abilities, or simply relieve them of their comforts. Kings and noble men are buried in massive pyramids along with soldiers who died under their rule, and protected by numerous enchantments and creatures who do not require food nor water to live. Indeed, necromancy is their primary magic, a fact they are quite proud of...turns my stomach, the thought of raising their fallen soldiers to serve a king even in death. Necromancers are near equal to kings, their powers signs of their divine nature and the more souls a necromancer brings under his control, the closer to a god he becomes. Necromancers are however not like mages of Locatria, they are embedded within the religious foundations of the continent and oversee it as priests, judges of court cases, and all hold positions of power in the governments. They are sometimes thought of as living weapons or armies all unto themselves, for in Pelopas when war is declared, it is the dead who fight and fight until their bones give out and are discarded in the sands, never to rise again. A system most abhorrent to my personal sensibilities.
