Drakhanates

A collection of city-states along the coast of the Roaring Sea each protected by a great dragon.

Structure

Each Drakhanate is protected by a single Great Dragon, the governing bodies operate mostly independent from the Protector Dragon beyond satisfying the particular needs and desires of each.

History

They tell a blue dragon that traveled from Wrath to live in the Roaring Sea saw a group of Khanites living under a cruel Khan and felt pity. According to tradition the dragon challenged the Khan and beat him easily, becoming the new ruler and first Drakhan.
With time a few more dragons, learning of this, pursued the same power, traveling to the Khanates and challenging their Khans. Not every Khan accepted the challenge but in the end several Khanates around the Roaring Sea turned into Drakhanates with a Dragon Protector.
The same rule of challenging the leader of a Khanate to suplant them still exists. A few cases of a dragon challenging the current Protector have been recorded, but lately the The Enlightened Empire, coveting the riches from trade, land and knowledge in the Drakhanates, has begun forming teams of aspiring Dragon Hunters; offering equipment, training and the rulership of a Khanate to those successful in exchange of annexing into the Empire as an Enlightened Khanate. So far only one such team has been sucessful, at great personal cost; the surviving dragon hunter, celebrated as the Dragonslayer  is the premier trainer and always begins every lesson with the same advice to consider any other aspiration.
