Soulridden
When a person is possessed by Lost Souls in The Otherside, they are said to be Soulridden.
Transmission & Vectors
Non infectious
Causes
If someone spends too long in The Otherside they can become possessed by a Lost Soul, the longer they spend the more souls they can be possessed by.
Symptoms
Upon first onset the person may start to exhibit signs of multiple personalities as their own soul fights for dominance over the invading souls, at this stage, the process can be stopped by removing the person from The Otherside. Towards the end of the first stage, the person may gain a temperature.
During the second stage the affected will lose control of their body. Symptoms vary, but those who have seen someone Soulridden have described what follows as being pure madness. At this stage, there is no way to cure the person or stop the progression of the disease.
The third stage includes eyes sprouting out of the person's skin. The number of eyes, normally in pairs, relates to how many souls are inside the person. This is an incredibly painful experience, both to the sufferer and anyone who may be around them.
Finally, the persons body will give out and they will die. There is a chance if only one soul has possessed the person that the souls inhabiting their body will continue to possess it, which leads to stage four.
At stage four, the corpse, under the control of another soul, will attempt desperately to find a living body, violently attacking any other living people. Should anyone be bitten or scratched by the corpse, it is certain that they will get another disease, which, although several symptoms are similar, is counted as a seperate illness.
Treatment
There is no known treatment.
Prognosis
After stage 2 is reached the person must be quaranteened as soon as possible. Soot-producing candles are often burnt in the room, as it is believed that they can help the person die humanly and calmly by sending them to sleep.
Sequela
Stage Four presents symptoms which are shared with Thydification.
