Madawai

The largest city of the Makrafti, Madawai dwarfs the other settlements of the long-eared people. Located at the source spring of a great river in the heart of the dessert, the grand city is composed of a mess of squat, rectangular buildings surrounded by a large wall to protect against the wind. These are all built from bricks of mud taken from the shore of the river and dried in the harsh desert heat. Unlike other settlements of the Makrafti, Madawai is home to multiple tribes of people. Acting much like rival gangs, the various tribes are in almost constant conflict for control of the grand city.

Madawai is known even amongst the other sub-species of Cres. While the Makrafti as a whole are known for their gem-crafting and glasswork, the glass made in Madawai is something else entirely. Stronger than most metals and able to hold an edge better than any other known material, Madawan glass is priceless. But this added strength also makes it incredibly difficult to properly shape. Only the greatest glass-smiths are able to craft the weapons and art that makes the city so famous.

Government

There is no central government of Madawai. Instead, numerous tribes fight for power, territory, and wealth amongst the narrow, twisting streets. Each tribe is led by their family head, who is chosen differently for each tribe. These tribes range in size from single families to dozens, forming and breaking alliances as quickly as the dunes change around them.

Industry & Trade

Madawai is a major hub of trade for the Makrafti people. Other settlements across the desert send their goods to sell in the great bazaar located in the center of the city, where merchants will then travel down the river to sell again at Albiden to the various Trade Caravans that pass through there.
