Fotiun

Geography

Fotiun is the only moon of Crescier, shining a deep, bright, gold on the world below during the night. At about a quarter of the size of Crescier, Fotiun dominates the skyscape when it is visible. Since the two celestial bodies are in tidal lock, the golden moon is locked in the sky above the eastern edge of the supercontinent of Crescier near the equator. Because of this, the tides are miniscule on the planet as there is no moon pulling the seas around. Due to its size, Fotiun illuminates the world beneath it enough for most creatures to be able to see fairly well at night. This has the added effect of keeping the nights on that side of the world warmer than it would be otherwise.

History

As Fotiun is such a constant in the skies above Crescier, it has gained significant meaning among the sapient peoples on the planet below. Often spoken of with a soft reverence and respect, the golden moon is now a universal symbol of peace and respite to those who reside on the surface. Said to have a soothing and pacifying effect on life, where the soft, golden light touches is seen as a neutral zone. Conflict is taboo beneath Fotiun's gaze, meaning any blood spilling is done in the light of day. It is tradition to hold meetings of significance outdoors and at night to promote trust between parties.   The Kerato people that reside in the deep cave networks beneath the earth do not hold this same reverence for the celestial body, often believing the surface dwellers have been left blinded and confused by the 'overabundance' of light they live in. Because of this, the Kerato have gained a very negative reputation with other races. They are not unknown to take advantage of their cousins' belief in the safety of the moon's light to raid other villages and towns.
