Lord Edge's Estate

In the south-eastern boundary of the former kingdom there was an estate built by the side of a small mountain, that butted up against a ravine. It was a beautiful structure with even more beautiful views.  The designer and architect could boast their professional prowess with the results of such a fine establishment.    Because this narrow region sat against the kingdom limit, adjacent to a mountain, beside a precipice, it became know as Edge.     Despite being on the kingdom limits, it became a well-known area, a piece of folk lore even.  People would travel just to see it and a small village was setup outside the Estate's land due to the amount of tourism that supported the area.     The Lord of Edge Estate was not a particularly popular man. He was vain and cared not for visitors' lives or their stories.  He felt so entitled with the attention the estate brought that he would impose upon anyone ignorant enough to visit the estate itself with his enigmatically troubling history, obstacles of suspect reason he had to and/or must still overcome, and self-anointed afflictions framed in ways as to make him nobler as to have them.  Because he was so far from the crown's influence, yet his estate held so much public interest, he became a defacto baron of his little niche.    One day, one visitor asked if anyone had seen the Lord of Edge Estate lately and it became apparent that none of the folk had any recollection of having seen him recently. Anyone who lived near by didn't care for him and made it their business to avoid him even.  Their curiosity had been piqued now that the question of him not being around had been raised.    Sure enough, over time, people started to notice the grounds changing. The atmosphere around the estate started to feel tainted and darker.  Sightings of odd critters and beasts, not typically native to the area, began to become more common.  The thought of walking up the estate itself began to instill an innate sense of unease to anyone pondering. The lore grew. People kept their distance.   One day, when an iridescent shape descended from the heavens, the Edge Estate would never be the same.  As the Thumb crashed into the planet's crust, along with it went half of the estate.  Perfectly severed from its former half, the remaining half now sat against the immaculate boundary of Ley-shaped chasm.  From the Lord's bedroom one could stand with their toes on the verge of abyss and gaze into forever.   The Edge Estate was truly living up to its name.
