Carmun Orcs

History

Carmun's Horde

Members of the Rohun Orcs tribes of the Central Steppes were captured in early childhood and raised for the bidding of the Sorceress Queen Carmun. Their heritage was stripped away as well as any semblance of honor as they were brutally raised by Carmun's Warmasters.

The Warmaster's gave no sympathy to the youngling army that they raised from near infancy. Through training, pain and zero tolerance for insubordination, the orcs were made to be devoid of mercy and hope, only feeling hate and a need to destroy wherever the Warmaster's directed. The first few generations were single minded and brutal, rendered little more than speaking beasts from the harshness of their conditions.

After Carmun

Carmun's eventual defeat saw her empire quickly splinter and control of the provinces quickly return to previous rulers. The Hordes revolted against their respective warmasters and began to scatter across Caledon (Region) and into surrounding regions.

With meager understanding of farming and trade these hordes live on the spoils of raids into civilized territories.

Individuals have been known to separate from their horde and make a more "modern" living as mercenaries or bandits as well as a few rare sailors and marines

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The speaking of Rohun Orcish was severely reprimanded from the first night of an orcling's capture. The only language the warmaster's tolerated was the Black Tongue. Itself being the precursor of Goblin (Language) among the orcs it changed even more and took on a sentence structure similar to their native Rohun Orcish and became more guttural than "chattery" Goblinish. This language is often referred to simply as "orcish" in Caledon (Region) but is recognized as Debased Black Tongue among scholars. Individuals familiar with one of the 3 "Tainted" languages can often communicate, to some extent, with native speakers of the others.

It is not uncommon to find orcs in higher positions within the horde that can speak Lingua Caledonis (Common) either for negotiation purposes or from prior employ outside the horde.

Average technological level

They have the capacity to smith with most metals, to some degree, but will not go through the trouble of mining the ore when it is much easier to raid a settlement known for armor or weapon manufacture.

Common Taboos

Complete removal of tusks is seen as a bad omen and individuals missing both tusks are shunned or even exiled if they are blamed as the cause of a battle loss.

Common Myths and Legends

Yamush-Carn

Wicked is she that follows behind the Horde
That takes those lost into her embrace
Till she needs, She keeps them near
Their sinew and bones are just her taste
-First lines of Yamush-Carn

The tale of the wicked demoness that steals children left behind by the horde, and causes healthy orc-lings to die of sickness. Appears to be a combination of the historic Carmun with other orc and bestial race deities
