Cerrus Valatine

Agent Cerrus Valatine (a.k.a. Ghost)

Cerrus Valatine is a long-time member of the Sky-Raiders, having joined in the Volantis revolutionary war, and a former Isollis Strike Team leader and Federal Army Ranger. He is very socially adept despite personally not trusting easily, and a skilled warrior, held in high regard by the Sky-Raiders and by Imperial agents he has worked with, but his past and his pragmatic method of fighting make him widely hated in the Federation and in the Galactic Northwest. He fights with a mix of subtlety and force, using stealth and manipulation to weaken the enemy and then quickly destroying them once in a good position to do so. He is, however, limited in his abilities due to his unwillingness to harm innocents, and his prioritization of civilian lives over mission success and even his own safety.

Personal history

Cerrus was orphaned at a young age, his parents killed in a violent terrorist attack, he himself barely surviving. As with most orphans in Isollis, he was drafted. Specifically, he was placed in a program to recreate the Imperial Augmented. It was a partial success, turning him and many others into intelligent and powerful killing machines; living machines to do the bidding of Slinese Incorporate, and Unit One by extension.   Cerrus turned out to be one of the most successful of them all, quickly becoming leader of a strike force and combining Isollian stealth and pragmatism with a personal touch of brutality and savage ferocity. He inspired fear in his enemies and, to a degree, in his own employers. However, as the years went on, he saw the damage his actions were doing to the lives of innocents. The Augmented, in an attempt to make greater use of their enhanced intellect, were merely indoctrinated with propaganda rather than being brainwashed and turned into mindless drones. As a result, Cerrus' compassion eventually won out over his loyalty and he quit. Slinese was worried that it would be too massive an expenditure of resources to eliminate him and that it would be a terrible move for PR, so they allowed him to leave   Cerrus next joined the Federal Army Rangers, signing on to protect the frontier from pirates and other criminals. He believed, for a while, that he was making a difference and protecting those he once terrorised. However, he was eventually stationed on the world of Volantis, where this view would fall apart. He served as the spymaster for the planet, informing the government about the activities of dissidents and revolutionaries. He soon realized, however, that he supported the rebels more than the planetary government. At a crossroads, he simply tried to manipulate both sides into not attacking. This was ultimately ineffective, and when the Sky-Raiders arrived on the world, he helped Amalda lead them to victory over the Federation's forces.
