Charite Chavallon
Baroness Charite Chavallon
Charity is the youngest child of three, having above her two elder brothers, Piers at 25, and Harvey 30. She lived an extremely comfortable life, wanting nothing. Once she could learn to talk, she was placed in merchant training, just as her brothers were, to ensure that she was knowledgeable about the family business. Around age seven, she started having interest in the sword, and showed promise in it. Charity’s parents soon shipped her off to a neighboring town with multiple sword masters, who then took her in and started training her. Her family hoped that Charity would be the answer to their largest and most glaring problem: their army needed a general who could lead, and someone who could train. They sent their child off to Water’s Landing with a hefty payment, and Charity did not see her family again for over ten years. Her only communication with Gorn was through letters sent from her mother and brothers, but this did not make Charity upset. Charity progressed greatly. She learned from several masters, and within a few years, became an extremely well versed swordswoman. In addition, she learned history, military tactics, basic subjects, and of course, merchant trading. She lived with the Alexander family, another group of nobles, and traveled with them often to other towns, meeting more and more nobility along the way. Because of her naturally cheerful nature, Charity was no stranger to the commons of these towns. She often visited shops, inns, and taverns, and enjoyed the quaint nature of them, especially in Water’s Landing. The town, almost as wealthy as Gorn, had a very satisfied population, and most lived above the poverty line. She was taught by the Alexanders that their people come first, and they stuck to that notion, creating a strong sense of pride and charity that became her norm. On her eighteenth birthday, Charity returned home to Gorn for the first time in almost ten years. She was disgusted. After seeing flourishing towns, and living in one that valued its people, Charity realized the horrendous state that Gorn was in. She understood it was a leadership issue with distribution of wealth, and wanted desperately to fix it. As the youngest sister of two brothers, that dream was hopeless. She took her role as the General of Gorn, and started slowly but surely shaping up the military of the town. During this time, she also attempted to soothe relations between the people of Gorn and the Noble family ruling over them. Charity would often give gifts to hurting families of food, medicine, and clothing. She created a ration program for youth recruitment to help give hope to families, and keep them fed for their children's service. It wasn’t long before the people of Gorn admired Charity, but despised the family she came from. Although she took her role seriously, Charity was constantly bothered by the bad decisions her father and brothers were making about the state of their people. Disregarded any time she attempted to give an opinion, she felt depressed and hopeless at any form of change. Her brothers didn’t take kindly to Charity’s act of charity, and decided to end her ration program, and restrict her to the Nobles quarters to ensure she was no longer giving the citizens hope. They made claims there were threats to assassinate because of her selflessness, and that the people of Gorn needed to be reminded they were there to serve, and not the other way around. After a year of her confinement, the state of the town declined severely, and whispers of war were around every corner. A neighboring town was getting more and more unhappy about Gorns tariff prices, and everyone was on edge. Recruitment for the army ceased after Charity’s ration program was disbanded, and although they had better trained fighters, their numbers were starting to decline. Charity in this saw opportunity. She was slowly losing herself, and her morals. “Maybe killing my brothers wouldn’t be such a terrible thing, after all,” she found herself often thinking, although she knew it was wrong. She convinced her brothers to allow her to leave Gorn in hopes of increasing her “real world” combat training, and to recruit more soldiers to their military. In reality, Charity just wanted out of her family shackles, and to have the ability to do good for the world. She hoped that with some time of her gone, things might change, but she would never rid herself of the guilt she felt for the people. The voice was there, it would always be there, and no one would suspect if she wasn’t even in town… With the permission and blessing of her family, Charity left Gorn on an adventure. Holding her own personal agenda at large, she really did also hope to recruit more people, and hone her own skills. “Who knows,” she thought, “Maybe I’ll be the first Chavallon in decades to slay a dragon.”
