True Trials

The true trials are a series of traumatizing tests set against champions in order to be acknowledged as army killers.

Execution

The trials consist of five parts that can be taken in any order:

Trial of Courage

A single incident of tremendous daring or bravery.

these trials are much more spontaneous than any of the others; occurring in the moment of a trying battle.

Trial of Suffering

Enduring a long period of physical pain with lasting effects.

This trial can also be impromptu and spontaneous as might occur in real life situations, or it might be set up for crowds to see.

Trial of Self-Harm

The removal of ones own body part such a finger, an ear or an eye.

The more vital the piece was, the greater the prestige.

Trial of Murder

Involves killing someone known between two warriors in a duel of honour.

Formal announcements and declarations can be made publicly but the actual duel takes place outside of populated centres.

Trial of Sacrifice

A staged hour long event where a participant willingly drinks a poisonous concoction that will kill in a certain amount of time, unless they race through a course for the cure at the other end.
Only the fire lords can call for this trial at any point in a warrior's career. After which, they can accept or decline, but declining could mean being closed out by the military establishment in the future or having to wait far longer to get another chance.

Participants

Warrior

The warriors who partake are a rare breed of fanatical soldiers.
They are not mared by birthright or privilege, but by their willingness to endure. Often being perceived as living testaments to human resilience and the brutality in world by the common people.

Arcane mystics insist on the magical properties of strange water.
To date, no one has been able to produce any interesting effect, so its classification as a trans-material is unsupported.
