Hartswood Lodge
A large timber frame and stone mansion located about a mile into the Hartswood forest, Hartswood Lodge is used as a base by a group of rangers associated with the Thieves' Guild. The building itself has seen several owners in it's time, and before the Rangers took over use of it it had sat vacant for about 5 years.
It was built 300 years ago as a hunting lodge by a noble family in Pelens. It remained in their family for about 100 years before the family disappeared suddenly, and it was put up for auction. It was bought by a wealthy merchant and his family who owned it and used it as a hunting lodge for about 50 years but eventually sold it due to increasing problems with dangerous "wildlife" in the area. It changed hands several times again over the next 120 years or so, but issues with bandit activity, dangerous creatures coming out of the north, and other such problems meant it never stayed in the same hands for long.
Eventually, about 30 years ago, the home was abandoned after its most recent buyer went bankrupt. It sat, shuttered and locked, vacant for about 5 years. It's rumored it was taken over by a pack of werewolves in this time, who trashed the place and made it their den.
An offshoot of the Thieves' Guild, looking for a new hideout somewhere remote and outside the city, heard tell of the building and ventured out to retake it as their own. After a vicious skirmish with its' werewolf residents, the Guild associates managed to eliminate or drive off the lycanthropes and claim the building as their own. They've since expanded their ranks and have kept control of the building, up til present day.
The lodge is continually plagued by the werewolves of the forest, and they seem to have a deep loathing for the Rangers and ever since they were driven out, they have been increasingly hostile and often attempt raids on the building or the Rangers who inhabit it.
