Rogue

Career

Qualifications

Rogues, originally, were less chosen and more found. Typically, children picked up off the streets and or wilds by the nearest Abbocy could be requested by the Temple and sent there to stay. Once there, they would train in the ways of the Assassin for their formative and teenage years. For the Temple, it still is that way and has been since the Banishment. However, since the formation of the Spiders Web, several other schools of training for would-be Rogues have sprung up across the Realms, all of which can be attributed to develop from the original Assassin school. The qualifications for each of these small sects are different but in nearly all of them, Rogues begin training at a young age.

Payment & Reimbursement

Among the Temple, Rogues are typically paid handsomely. Sometimes given deeds and titles for false reasons, including a good amount of pay, these people live as false nobles and priests. Mostly living a life in luxury and discreetness, these Rogues flip their fake persona upside down when the time calls for it. The same cannot be said for non-Temple Rogues. Of other schools, they are only paid however much their last job and or group gave them. Because of this, Rogues live lives across the board in terms of wealth and lifestyle.

Perception

Purpose

Originally, the Assassin school of Rogues were created solely to keep the peace between nations to prevent war by way of espionage and assassination specifically within Highsun. However, as centuries passed and the Temple gained more sway over Realms such as Unside and Cevaria, the Assassins could be found there as well. Accordingly, dozens of would-be conflicts have been prevented and caused by way well placed leaked information, false information, assassinations and several other methods. Though, that was long ago. In the years since the founding of the Web, Rogues have become associated with even more nefarious activities, such as smuggling, bounty hunting, slavery, blackmail and other highly distasteful activities.

Social Status

Assassin Rogues are recognized, or rather, not recognized by their covers as lesser nobles, merchants and priests. Because of this, they typically do hold some sway over more common folk and enjoy the benefits of such positions. That being said, Assassin Rogues that are found out tend to move far away from those who uncovered their true identity and reestablish themselves as another person.     Non-Temple based Rogues, such as those found within the Web are more often feared than anything else. Claiming the identities of other professions as well, being a non Assassin Rogue is considered heresy by the Temple and as such is punishable by death on the spot. For this, non-Assassin Rogues typically take even more care of hiding in plain site and making sure their tracks are covered above all else.

History

Early History

Shortly after the founding of the Temple, several lesser groups went to war within Highsun for 'un-ideal' reasons according to many of those within the newfound Temple. In response, the Temple formed the Assassins from several veterans of the Banishing and a dozen young children and babes. These veterans, chosen for their ability to perform discreet acts of neutralization, stealth and arcane prowess became the first Assassins. From the first children chosen, they became the next in line, supplanting those originals who would soon grow old and feeble. From these two groups, the Splitting Years were officially, quietly brought to an end and several years of near Realm wide peace occurred.
"'Cause of death you ask?' the mortician pointed a clawed hand to a deep purple line around on the Cleric's neck, 'Strangulation by rope, of course.' These lines though were not of just any rope though, I could tell that much. Under the Cleric's fingernails was a few small lines of a strong, crimson colored thread. The Temple had taken their own. It was clear to see. Only later would I found out that this particular Cleric had been trafficking illegal artifacts and the local sheriff had found this out a week prior but not enough reason beyond that to arrest him in his own Abbocy. So that begs the question; why kill him? Why not deliver him to the townsfolk or just blackmail him? The answer to that was, quite simply put, silence." - Genoan Investigator, Etan Willims.
