Rioc, The Falling Islands

Rioc, the islands where Thalas go to prove their worth. A group of islands that has saved as many people as it has killed.    They are one of the most hostile islands, The Cloud the only source of any food or water there, no people anywhere close. It's almost a full day flight of a normal Thalas to get to the next inhabited island.

Geography

Rioc is a small group of medium-sized islands. They float unusually high above The Cloud, not really getting much moisture and being a mostly barren piece of land. The three islands have no real individual names, they are usually referred to as 'The rocky one', 'the flat one' and 'the last one'.   The names are quite telling, the flat one is the one people set up camp on, if they desperately need to, it's the lowest one and has a bit of flat ground that makes for a resonable campsite. There's not much more going on on that island, a few very crippled trees, some bushes that are desperately holding on are the only real vegetation there.   The rocky one is exactly that, a scape of many, many rocks, no plants, nothing else that keeps the island holding together. This causes the island to be very brittle and unable to take much weight without chunks of it breaking off.   The last one is small in comparison, landscape something inbetween rocky and flat. It is the house of a small shrine to Rachi Arbri, one brave Thalas Welkin who carried her Aderyn companion from the islands to safety while being followed by a group of mercenaries.

History

The islands themselves have a limited amount of real history, they have been the subject of legends and myths since the first Thalas have visited them. They aren't owned by anyone, they aren't really inhabited, most people have never actually visited them.   The most notable legend being told is the one of Sylvie Lark, the queen of Miran, being saved by her Thalas companion Richi who fought against mercenaries to get them to the islands only Thalas really know about. Thanks to that tale, the islands are said to be blessed, a place of hope, even though most people still won't go there, the Thalas that do have deep respect for the place that saved one of the most loved rulers of their time.
