Monster Core

Within every monster regardless of rank is a central core of condensed mana called a core. The origins of this core are thought to be related to the network of magical veins that are theorized to fill a space in between a monsters body and mind, much like what was thought to be a soul. There are three types of cores that can be found within a monster depending on their strength which are the Liver, Heart and Brain.

Properties

Material Characteristics

The cores found inside monsters vary in size but they have all found to resemble and be located in locations much like organs. Not all monsters carry in them full cores and not all cores are properly extracted, thus making a majority of those found and collected to be rough shards of rock like substance similar to that of a crystal.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Much like mana crystals, monster cores are brimming with the energy called mana. But not like them, once they are harvested from a monster they do not seem to be able to naturally absorb any more mana from the environment. Because of this detail even normal people can pick up and hold this crystallized objects without fear of the burn that mana crystals come with.

Geology & Geography

It has been found that all monsters that have been found inside A Door all have some degree of a core, though the size and potency depend on the overall strength of the monster.

History & Usage

Discovery

Monster cores were one of the first things found after the opening of the first Door after the governments collected and sent the corpses of the leftover monsters to be cut opened and researcher. A lot of the first cores were found to be whole and very full of energy much to the discontent of harvesting lower ranked monsters and determining their cores much weaker and less developed.

Everyday use

Monster cores are used to trade in to the WDA in return for credits on their Coral. Even the smallest core and let them live for a few weeks without worrying all too much about bills and expenses.

Cultural Significance and Usage

There have been a variety of experiments attempting to use a monster's core to power magic and skills, but those who have tried have been found to either run out of mana and rely on them, or burn themselves out draining them much of their own vitality without finding the middle point.

Industrial Use

In the case of using the stored energy within, these cores have been found to have more natural uses unlike the mana crystals they are so similar to. Monster cores are able to release their built up mana once opened up without the need for complex skills or talent they are able to flood magic into the surrounding area without attempting to absorb it back up or needed a stabilizing agent. This being said they are not able to create alloys and more physical materials but they are useful in infusing things with magic and enchanting with runes while creating magical items.

Hazards

Though they are useful, the release of the mana within can be an dangerous issue and cause illness, fatigue, loss of hair or most severely burn the nearest people out when their own bodies try to absorb the released energy.

Environmental Impact

With the release of mana directly into the ground by planting and opening cores, researchers have found ways to increase crop growth exponentially if only briefly before the mana spreads outwards like water trying to fill the glass that is the world.

Reusability & Recycling

Once opened or cracked or absorbed, however it is done, a core cannot be used again if its magic is tapped into as it cannot close itself back up or reabsorb mana.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The sale of monster cores is held through the WDA Auction service handled between countries and high standing businesses with the legal availability of purchasing such materials. This makes them valuable in not only the fact that they barely come from low ranking monsters but that only select people authorized and recognized can be allowed to obtain these objects legally.
