Arcanites (Ark-ahn-ite)

Soon after the Fae were given their territories, they attempted to make themselves some controllable assistants. Tapping into the limted power of their own from the portions of their trapped within the pocket as well as the natural magicks of Vaysoom, they attempted to turn a small portion of the human population into animals. The intent had been to create creatures with sentience and intelligence, but which would be more easily manipulated and controlled for the purposes of the Faerie Courts.

Unbeknownst to the Fae, however, Alorahd's youngest child, a trickster known as Narahdoh, didn't feel that this was fair to the mortals. Interveneing on their behalf, the Humans were instead imbued with the ability to change into the shape of a single beast for short periods all their lives. The creature itself is determined by parentage, with a single creature taking precedence should differing bloodlines occur. Unfortunately, superstitious and discriminatory Humans tend to refer to them as "Curse-Born", most others, particularly the Fae and the Elves, hold them with a particular respect, even if they may not particularly agree with an Arcanite individual.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Arcanites tend to be unfairly feared and treated with suspicion, more due to the involvement of the Fae in their past than of anything else. The ability to hide as a "common" beast, is more often treated with jealousy or, on rarer occasions, awe, rather than any true fear or suspicion of the Arcanites themselves.
