Ravonia

Ravonia. A hell of rain and mud. On the border of the Wyrdwood, an inherently magical and alien place, it is considered one of the last bastions of magic on the continent. Attacks by everything from the common bandit or monster to threats of an alien and unknown nature are extremely common. Dangers lurk around every corner, even in the safest of areas. The people of Ravonia have thus learned to be prepared for anything, and to be rather suspicious of outsiders, especially non-human ones. Currently, the people of Ravonia worship the Avian god family, with Taube, goddess of light, at its head. Recently however, Taube's pacifistic nature and the increasing number of threats Ravonia faces have put her and the human nobles, lead by a certain Karl Von Hart, in a strained relationship. In addition, alien forces have begun to move in the shadows, their goals unknown. The fate of Ravonia nears a crossroads in its history, which one it will take, and who will lead it, remains to be seen.

Geography

Ravonia is a mix of valleys, grasslands, and swamps, with the majority being the latter. To the north part of the region lies Alder's Range, a mountain range and the source of several rivers running through Ravonia. In central Ravonia and around the capital of Taubeburg in the northwest is where the majority of farming takes place, and life is (relatively) safe. To the south lie the swamps of the cursed mire. These accursed swamps, spanning most of the region, hold some of the worst dangers Ravonia has to offer. The diseases and dangers stemming from these horrid lands are many, as such, few make their home here. To the east lies the ocean, with all its boons and banes. Most of its boons, the city of Danzei takes great advantage of. And finally, to the west, lies the wyrdwood: Ravonia's greatest bane, and the source of most of the wild untamed magical aspects that plague (or bless) Ravonia.

Fauna & Flora

It is often said: "In Ravonia everything is trying to kill you." While most Ravonians take this as a hyperbolic stereotype, especially the northern Ravonians it is easy to see why the saying became as popular as it did. While the north holds more natural fauna and flora, the same cannot be said about the south or the east. Insects seem to have taken a liking to the southern swamps, and have grown exceedingly large there. Lizards have also experienced the same growth and prosperity in those cursed swamps. One the more...common sights unfortunately for many Ravonians, are arachnids, often at a size comparable to horses. While many are dangerous, and can easily kill the humans who live there, some few madmen have taken to taming them as beasts of burden...with moderate success. But nothing compares to what comes from the wyrdwood. It is no secret that the wyrdwood is a magical place, and its flora and fauna signify that. Trees grow to enormous sizes, some glow strange colours in the night, and many do not take kindly to being cut down. To make matters worse, wretched orc and goblinoid tribes make their home in those woods, and often see the human settlements of Ravonia as perfect raiding targets. This is, of course, in addition to the other creatures coming from these woods. Viper woods, Glassmen, and even the wyrdwood itself making an attempt to expand its realm, are all common problems.

Natural Resources

The Valleys of the North and Swamps of the south provide the wood for Ravonia, with Iron and Black Steel being surprisingly plentiful in the swamp lands, once they are drained, of course. The valleys also provide excellent harvest to its farmers, with grain being among the favourites. Trade from the sea and north bring other goods, and Ravonia trades away its black steel, iron, and most importantly, wood from the wyrdwood, which, when collected, proves to be some of the strongest wood in existence. The surprising resource of pearls and coral has been found to be exceedingly profitable.
