Office of Advanced Supernatural Intelligence and Suppression

Office of Advanced Supernatural Intelligence and Suppression, or OASIS for short hand, is a secret government organization dedicated to managing supernatural threats in all their forms. One day, they will be hunting werewolves in rural Washington, and the next day, investigating a cult dedicated to summoning the Snake Lord Yawagath into a major population center. Despite this crucial role in keeping the unknowable away from polite society, they have only been recently reformed after being disbanded nearly 20 years ago. Due to this, the entire organization is barely two hundred individuals, few of whom have real experience in this field. To that end, OASIS has been using their liquid funds to hire independent operators, called Hunters, for the good of the country as a whole. Bounties are paid to Hunter when they are able to eliminate or suppress threats, with larger and more dangerous threats being worth many times more.

Structure

The Director is responsible for oversight of the organization as a whole. They report only to the President and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The only other people who know the identity of the director, outside the organization, are the heads of the FBI, CIA, NSA, and a few Cabinet Secretaries. The day to day operations of the organization are handled by the deputy director. This includes managing the primary support office in Pennsylvania, which provides support, intelligence, resources, and facilitates communication with and among the local cells Below the director are the senior operatives of each cell. Each cell operates semi-independently, and has their own staff of operatives and support personnel. A cell is responsible for a specific geographic area, which, given the small size of the organization, can be quite large. For example, the Northern Rockies Cell is responsible for Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, and only has about 10 people. Additional Ranks:

Specialist - similar to an operative, but with a special skill, be this in intelligence, weapons, tactics, etc.
Technician - title given to all support staff that are not expected to do field work or carry a weapon

Assets

Despite the organization's small size, it has significant resources. Each cell generally has access to a car or truck for each individual, one or more private planes, one or more mid-range helicopters, and a high amount of liquid funds for independent operators, bribes, and the purchase of incriminating evidence.

History

While little is known of the history of this group, it is generally believed they were began during the Civil War Reconstruction era, when the country was becoming more connected, and there were becoming fewer places for the wild things to hide. While they were disbanded and reformed a few times over the last century and a half, the most recent disbanding was the longest. In 1999, during a time of overall prosperity, the powers that be decided OASIS was no longer necessary, as even the highest levels of government were beginning to not believe supernatural threats existed. In the intervening years, threats that were long thought dead and buried slowly became active again, causing trouble for all manner of people. Combine this with the rise of the internet, America's increasing preoccupation with supernatural events, and changing social norms, OASIS was reformed. In the last year, they have been working to expand their reach, hire qualified individuals, and begin putting the country back in order.
