The Binding Spike
Originating in the Ancestor Mountains, stretching over the plains below, the Binding Spike is a monumental construction of the first goblins, used to capture and bind the gods before they fled and sealed the goblins in the Underdark with their terrible prize.
One never knows how to feel about it, at once it both reminds you that the impossible may not be so, yet also that actions can echo through generations for good and ill. The Great Statesmen, Orator and Philosopher Goblin TeelsnufMade of steal and stone, the Spike is a burned out ruin, created for a limited number of uses, the giant power crystals still lie in its heart, dull and empty, connected to burned out magic circuits and rusted mechanisms.
Purpose / Function
It's purpose was to fire a sort of magic lasso through the dimensions and catch the gods in their own world, dragging them to this one to be trapped.
This all came to be when the first goblins insatiable curiostity got the better of them, having explored all else, the questions they wanted answering now could only be answered with the power of the Gods, so they built a device to capture the Gods, not thinking of the consequences.
Thus beginning the war of the Reins.
Having surved this purpose the Spike lies in ruin; a grim reminder of where curiosity gets you.
Alterations
A Monastery has been built into the remains of the Spike; with the monks setting up their cells in the old magic dampening rooms near the base, using some of the command rooms as ceremonial halls and establishing gardens in the extractor vents to feed the monks and pilgrims, providing a green oasis in this otherwise featureless metal and stone landscape.
Architecture
Akin to a sky scraper at a 45% angle jutting out of a mountian, with a stone floor that makes up the length of the Spike, iron and steal panels making the walls and roof. Great glassless windows are the primary source of light and ventilation within.
History
One of a series of great monuments left by the first goblins, this one maybe holds the most sway in the hearts and minds of the folk of the Underdark.
Once used to capture and bind the gods, giving the first goblins great power but also destroying their civilisation and throwing them back thousnads of years in terms of culture and technology.
Due to this strange past it is not a location that is fought over, no faction particularly wants to be the one to own this monument. It is nominally within the lands of Capital, however the monks within are left to their own devise and pay no taxes or tithes to the great city.
The Spike can be seen for a great distance due to its elevation on the side of the mountain and its immense size.
