The Tonatiuh Caverns
The Tonatiuh caverns are a network of caves that are incredibly wide, with a low-hanging ceiling just 400 meters above the floor. The ceiling is covered in a massive tangle of vines that provide a warm illumination down to the ground below, with a high amount of UV light which provides the perfect conditions for plants to grow on the floor. The further south you go, the closer the ground is to the ceiling until it eventually connects, where the air is so hot it can burn the skin if you stay too long.
The winding caverns of Tonatiuh are full of arid deserts, sprawling prairies and dense jungles. There is an abundance of aquifers and springs which provide fresh water to the flora and fauna, and the largest caverns are home to the settlements of Omeso, which are often times next to such aquifers, small towns of just a few buildings where people farm various vegetables, most of all corn.
