Caverns of Prometheus

A warm light spreads around the walls of the cavern as wishing lanterns lift into the sky. They pool at the ceiling of the cave, forming a soft blanket of light at the very roof, illuminating the pillar which reaches from the top of the cavern to the city below. Each light a different color, each lantern a different shape. The Festival of Colors, a celebration of the city of Polaris. Every year, the people of the city come together to celebrate the districts of the city.   The red lanterns were lifted by the Omesoans, who brought sizzling meats and richly roasted maize to their stalls beside the entrance to the agora.   The orange lanterns were lit by the Maninbarans, who brought literature and math, and old stories to the homeless who sit raggedly on the streets.   The yellow lanterns were lit by the Suritrans, who brought jewelry and fine linen. Their displays caught the eyes and pockets of the elites.   The green lanterns were lit by the Zhianshi, who brought swords and sheaths, staffs and shields, trades of awe and fear.   The blue lanterns were lit by the Rindunese, who brought spices, food, dances, and songs that filled the halls as the people walked across the streets.   The purple lanterns were lit by the Kynoseans, who brought state and order. They ruled the city and took what the others provided with great pleasure.   And the city of Polaris was alight with excitement, joy, trepidation. Five brought, one took. And in the center of the city, the people came together to watch a play - The Promethean Knights. A story of six knights from each of the lands who came together to return the humans to the light, to the land where the caves are no more and the mountains reach the gods. A fairy tale told to the children of the cave.   You slow to a halt as you arrive at the heart of the festival. In front of you is the towering spire that reaches the very top of the cavern. Within its rocky formation are a thousand shimmering windows, reflecting the light of the lanterns. At its base, a pair of doors fit for giants, set in front of a dozen towering quartz pillars.
