Gree
A tiny, remote village on the western coast of the Isle of Viridius
Demographics
Mostly Human
Government
Technically part of the Carminian Kingdom, but small enough to be mostly overlooked. The governance of Gree is largely autonomous.
The town government consists of a village council, and a sheriff.
Decisions which affect the entire village, such as laws, are made by an elected council of villagers, which is led by the mayor.
Likewise, the sheriff enforces the law. Any prisoners are held in a special room at the inn, which functions as a cell. Prisoners may expect a speedy trial by the village council.
Defences
There is a temporary wooden wall surrounding the village, clearly this has been put in place only recently.
Industry & Trade
There is a blacksmith and an inn. A travelling merchant routinely stops here, supplying the villagers with news of the outside world as well as general goods.
While farms are plentiful in the area, most grain is exported to the war effort. There are few farms left with any livestock.
There is a healthy fish market which accounts for much of the town's food.
Infrastructure
There is a quaint cobblestone road running through the village, though it is worn from recent years of neglect. Many of the homes here are also shabby and run down, as are their inhabitants.
Although Gree has not seen any of the fighting of the ongoing Carminian Civil War, the village has suffered terribly. In addition to supplying food from their farms, the families of Gree have lost several sons in the war. To add insult to injury, Gree has also been visited by the King's extortionist tax collectors with increasing frequency, being bled dry of their health, wealth, and happiness.
Guilds and Factions
The village council is the ruling body which governs the village itself, but they are not the only faction.
The Seamstress' Circle - a group of women in town with a shared love for needlecraft. They create most of the town's blankets and clothing.
The Farmers Association - farmers from the surrounding countryside who share techniques and technology, in the interest of harvesting better crop yields. Their motto is "Grain is gold," and they are the largest economic power of Gree.
Fisherfolk - not an official organization, this group is made of all the men and women who make their living from fishing. They are a hardy, practical bunch, and do not care for outsiders much.
The Hermit - a strange old man who lives in the forest beyond Gree's farmland. He is not frequently seen in the village.
Mountain Goblins - raiding parties of these small creatures are sometimes seen roaming the forest, but their tribes make caverns in the nearby mountains their home.
History
Gree is a tiny farming village. Nothing of historical importance ever happened here.
Geography
Gree is surrounded by farms to the west, south, and east. To the north is the vast ocean.
Beyond the southern farmland lies a small forest, and beyond the forest is a mountain range with craggy peaks stabbing angrily into the sky.
A road leading from the village to the southwest hugs the seaward coast of Viridius, and a road leading east of Gree passes into the great green plains of the island.
