St. Delphinie Hospital and Rescue Center

The St. Delphinie Hospital and Rescue Center was built by Delphinie Bassa Aug. The Rescue Center was added in 980 AnCog during the expulsion of the Fae and helped hundreds of Fae move out of the country secretly and safely. Since then the center has continued to help refugees going to and from the country, orphans, abuse survivors, and many others.    Both the hospital and rescue center are run by the Sisters of Life order of nuns started by St. Delphinie. Sisters in the order specialize in caring for the sick both inside and outside the hospital. In recent years it has been suggested that the hospital open a school to teach medicine to women outside the order. This possibility is still in the works. Women around the world who wish to be doctors or nurses are encouraged to enter the order to learn these skills, but this requires them to be committed to the religion and vows the sisters have to take which is a great barrier to many talented and caring potentials.

Purpose / Function

St. Delphinie came to Kiara in 830 AnCog. She then worked in a small hospital run by an order of monks, who mainly worked at the Great King's Cathedral. There she saw the city's desperate need for a bigger and better hospital. For a whole year, she persistently asked her superiors to allow her to build a hospital to better help the people, at last in 838 AnCog they agreed. Although the construction was completed four years later, it was not opened for another two years. During the first year, St. Delphinie realized that she could not run the hospital with the few monks the order would allow to help her. She needed to start a new order, an order of sisters she could take charge of. After several months she was allowed to do this as well but was unable to gather enough sisters to open the hospital until a year later.    Since the opening of the hospital in 841 AnCog it has never been empty and has continued to offer new doctors and programs almost every year. It was given two awards for its high standard of care and innovation. Both of which granted the hospital large amounts of money, which has allowed the hospital to stay open and free to all people. Those who can afford to pay for their care are greatly encouraged to do so and often do as many have seen the great impact the hospital has had on the country.
