Astor

Astor is the capital of the Commonwealth Astoria.  Within the city, The University as well as the Council building are housed.  It is also the residence of the current Head of the Commonwealth.  More or less centrally located within the Commonwealth, since its founding fourteen years ago, it has become a cultural and political hub for the six member countries.

Demographics

Being the political and cultural hub for The Commonwealth, the city houses humans from all nationalities on Astoria as well as dignitaries, merchants, and visitors from other countries.

Government

Being the seat of power for the entire Commonwealth, it is run directly by the central government; however, day-to-day needs of the country are often appointed by the Head.

Defences

The city's center, home to the government building where the Head and his administration is housed, is a walled ward.  The University is also housed within its own walled ward.  Moreover, the entire city is walled.  In addition, a large contingent of Blades and Magi are housed within the city.  Defensive preparation is extensive, although it has never been tested.  The founders of The Commonwealth were concerned that having all their leaders in one spot might open them to attack, so great attention was paid to its defense.

Industry & Trade

Astor has quickly become a major trading hub for Astoria and beyond.  Because of the large number of countries' dignitaries in the city, it became a great place to make connections and deals.

Guilds and Factions

Different guilds have flocked and formed in the capital since it was founded.  As more trade and industry comes to the city, it is only natural that they should form groups.  What makes it interesting is guilds and factions from across the Commonwealth are looking to make a foothold within the city with mixed success.  This provides a rich environment for feuds and more than a few "turf wars."
