DescriptionDeep within the mountains to the north lies the indomitable Vilkenhöfer, the center of the monster-hunting world. Its location is a strategic choice, as it is quite difficult for most to reach, even for the abominations that roam the lands. It lies atop what was once a full mountain, now only a wide plateau after its peak was decimated by a great feat of the arcane long ago. The settlement is built right up to the edge of the plateau, with tall stone walls, making the mountain seem taller than it is. In those walls are many windows, with magic users manning cannons all day and night, watching for any eldritch scaling the mountainside.
A great number of residents of Vilkenhöfer are members of the Wolfblades, and the leader of the settlement is also the leader of the monster-hunting clan. Those who reside there who do not fight are in service to those who do. They do what little farming and maggot breeding that can be done in the inhospitable, arid mountaintop. To supplement their lack of nourishment, the residents of Vilkenhöfer have taken to eating the monsters the Wolfblades hunt, and I might add that some of it is extremely well-prepared, even with the horrid taste eldritch flesh is known to have. Although Vilkenhöfer is rather large in size, with the sheer amount of people, the living quarters are quite cramped. This is often alleviated when the Wolfblades go on their prolonged hunts, however.
The settlement is ruled over by its warlord, Reichart Tullgast the Third and the twelve noble families, descendants of Reichart the First’s twelve Wolfblade commanders. While Reichart the Third is out on hunts, the heads of the noble families rule as a collective in his stead.
History
Around one hundred years ago now, Reichart Tullgast the First, the founder of the Wolfblades, led his twelve commanders and their families up the mountain path he had forged. His wife, who would later be known as Ilse the Mad, was a powerful master of the dark arts, and upon Reichart’s request, with an unknown spell, the mountain before them was made into a flat plot of land. Over the years, all those who were courageous enough to fight against the darkness flocked to this land, and the population grew exponentially from there.
