Description
Mauwthog, the eldritch god of the abyss, emerges from the stygian depths as an unfathomable terror, it lays dormant on the sea floor under inky black waters far southeast off the coast of Caligone. It has tainted the southern sea with its corrosive ink that mutates any fish left in the sea to hostile eldritch abominations, which it often eats. The colossal squid is of unknowable proportions, the maw itself spans thousands of ships wide; lined with mountainous, razor sharp fangs, and millions more behind each row, to devour any poor souls lucky enough to be spared the horrors of witnessing this monstrosity any longer. Its teeth are a diluted yellow and rotting red; its nine tentacles, enshrouded in a pallid, darkened gray blubber that shimmers with an eerie, otherworldly phosphorescence, extend into the furthest reaches of the horizon. Its penetrating, malevolent gaze, manifesting as fiery orbs of burning orange, pierces the very fabric of reality, invoking a primal fear that awakens the most profound depths of dread. It reeks of the ocean and rotting fish and has an earth shattering wail that could crack the continent in two. It is said that the tentacles of Mauwthog are the reason for the omnipresent storm over the sea. Any who dare venture to where one penetrates the surface of the deep are swiftly crushed by that tentacle, leaving a clear shrouded sky in its wake.

History
Mauwthog seems to go into hibernation periodically, hiding itself beneath the sand on the ocean floor with only its maw visible, an open void consuming anything that gets sucked into its vortex. Once a century, however, Mauwthog’s eye can be seen piercing through the shroud, almost from the other side of the continent. What it is plotting is unknown.
