Description
These parasitic beings resemble grotesque, serpentine tendrils with hundreds of wriggling, needle-like appendages that extend from a central, fleshy mass. Their appearance alone is enough to send shivers down the spine of any who behold them.
When led by Malachar, the Dark Practitioners obtained several of these specimens to study the parasite’s transformation of the host to a thrall, with the hopes that they could find a way to control it. In their research, they found that the parasite enters through the mouth, and wriggles to the spine, where it rests at the neck of the host.
These Johri are carriers of Xy'thar's malevolent will. When they invade a person's mind, it is the beginning of a slow and nightmarish transformation into a thrall. The process starts with a sensation of profound unease and paranoia, as if shadows and whispers are constantly lurking at the edge of one's perception.
As the parasite's influence deepens, victims experience vivid and tormenting nightmares, filled with incomprehensible horrors. Their thoughts become increasingly distorted, their memories muddled, and their sense of self erodes. The host's eyes take on an unnatural, otherworldly glint, betraying the alien presence that has taken root within.
From the Dark Practitioner's observations, it is akin to the descent into Madness, but it is a continuous, slow, and painful process. Accordingly, it takes roughly ten days for the subject to become a thrall, but it’s not until the last hour or so that the host turns to a thrall. I theorize that this is an extension of Xy’thar’s apparent lust for human suffering.
