Description
Freiherr Von Baron is of average height, with a leaner build but still muscular; he has darkened gray hair with streaks of silver and a stubbled beard. He has a rounded square face with dark eyebrows, golden, often bloodshot, eyes and a german nose. He is missing half of his left ear and has 4 claw scars across his face. His body is tightly wrapped in spider silk rags up to his neck. Along with a chainmail shirt, he dawns various different platings of armor; dented and scratched dark steel cuisses, tasses and breastplate, rusted and decaying iron sabatons, greaves, poleyns, gauntlets, vambraces and rerebraces. Finally, a large bronze pauldron, dotted in extended bounding studs stained in blood etched Ichor runes for sanity encompasses his left shoulder. It is one of the oldest traditions of Heimer Vorsatz to replace pieces of armor heavily used in battle. Kill an abomination with just your steel gauntlets? You’re now declined to bronze,in a kind of masochistic practice to prove your worth as a warrior. He carries a respirator, crossbow, Herzschlag and various daggers. He also wears a dulled forest green cloak with silver thread sewn in the repeated pattern of the Von Baron family crest: a triangular knot of three snakes surrounding a Viy circle. Along with the crest, his cloak also has protective, strengthening, and healing runes sewn throughout the hood and cape. The cloak also has an excessive amount of sanity runes lining the inner fabric, and while its purpose is to counter the madness of the Shroud, I have witnessed first hand the true reason for them. Half of Freiherrs body has succumb to the Madness, tainted amethyst skin creeps up his lower torso and along his left shoulder; his left arm and thigh have contorted and decayed into undulating flesh barely holding onto his bones like a decayed corpse, his left hand and calf remaining as tentacles wrapped and tangled together in the shape of his missing appendages. I’ve crossed paths with Freiherr, he too tries to understand the Madness, longing for it all to end. He has high hopes of a better future and the determination and assertion to do so. He would do anything to achieve his goals, even if that means the absolution of humanity. The sanity runes keep him from turning into an abomination from the Vorfall and from becoming a lesser man amongst the best of us.
History
Tales talk about the Silver scarred wolf with golden eyes, how he is one of the last remaining survivors of the Dunkler Tod Vorfall in Heimer Vorsatz. He was the successor to Gerhard Von Baron; the late chieftain of Heimer Vorsatz. At only the age of 12, he slayed his first monster with just his dagger and pauldron. He lost his father and settlement at age 19 in Vorfall; that's also when he was tainted and almost lost his aforementioned limbs in the very room that the blast of Dunker Tod originated from. After surviving in the wilderness longer than any man is supposed to in the Shroud, he made his way across Caligone from settlement to settlement, learning quickly to keep his mutation covered up and hidden to blend in. All until he journeyed to Dungarstel. He climbed the ranks swiftly through the military as a guard, then captain, general, and finally elected as a high council member in 298 as the youngest elected member at just age 39. He now has a bitter hate for the dark arts, and while he himself partakes in using ichor for it’s magical properties he’s hoping for the downfall of all the dark mages on the High Council.
