DescriptionFischbach, a modest fishing village nestled along the grim and murky shores of Caligone's tainted waters, stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of its inhabitants. Despite the grim circumstances that have befallen the world, Fischbach has managed to carve out a unique existence amid the chaos and despair that shrouds the land. Fischbach's culture is deeply rooted in the traditions of survival and self-sufficiency. Its residents have forged a close-knit community, bound by their shared struggles and reliance on the tainted waters for sustenance. Fischbachians are known for their resilience and unwavering determination to protect their way of life. The village thrives primarily on fishing, with its main industry revolving around the catching and processing of mutated fish. Small stalls and marketplaces offer these unique catches to traders and travelers passing through. Despite the grim circumstances, Fischbachians take pride in the quality and variety of their catch. The village maintains a local militia to keep law and order, and punishments for theft and violence can be severe. Fischbach maintains a small militia composed of able-bodied villagers who protect the settlement from external threats. Their primary duty is safeguarding the village against mutated creatures and potential raiders. Fischbachians hold a deep reverence for the sea, considering it both their life source and a source of danger. While they do not have formal religious practices, many rituals and superstitions center around appeasing the sea spirits and seeking their favor. The village consists of tightly packed wooden huts and cabins surrounded by a wall erected on the land and shipwrecks going down into the beach and sea, designed to withstand the harsh conditions and frequent flooding. Family bonds are strong, and households often include multiple generations living together. It is one of the only settlements that still has proper burials, the deceased are drifted away from shore and set ablaze by a burning arrow. This is not only to honor their dead but as a form of ritualistic sacrifice to the Mauwthog, as Fischbach is the closest settlement to the beast. Its people have to shield their eyes, windows, stalls and doors from the fiery glow of its eye whenever it surfaces. They pray these sacrifices will be sufficient enough to avoid destruction. Large stone pillars have been set in place just off the shore, buried deep in the sandbed in the efforts to shield and fortify themselves from the Mauwthog.
