Giants

Giant Folk, more commonly known as Giants (or Grerfey in First Tongue), are the earliest known sentient inhabitants of Caldarra. The year they are believed to have first appeared marked the beginning of the Age of Origin which is considered the first true age in Caldarra. Over the millennia the Giants have become a much less populous Folk and are now only found in small secluded communities in the various corners of the continent. Scholars at The Kuriosum speculate that they were birthed from an Awakened Primordial as the oldest known stories of Giants talk of The Three Faces carving them from the very rocks inside the great mountains of The Drift.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Standing over 12 feet tall Giants tower above all other Folk; their strong, thick legs and wide hips helping to support their massive frames. Their gait is often slow and purposeful however they are capable of travelling great distances at frightening speed once they have had the time to reach sprinting pace. Their long arms hang low on their bodies and are strong enough to shatter bones with a single strike or lift creatures as large as stags above the Giant's head. Their hearing is relatively poor but they make up for it with their tremendous eyesight which comes from their large bulbous eyes. Their skin is rough and tanned and their hair grows thick and dark.

Genetics and Reproduction

Due to their longevity, Giants will often delay having children until late into their life.

Growth Rate & Stages

Giant children take almost forty years to grow into full grown adults. The first decade of their life they are dependent on their parents at which point they grow to the point of being better at fending for themselves. After reaching adulthood a giant can live for over 300 years.

Dietary Needs and Habits

A Giant's diet consists largely of meat or fish which they usually eat raw including the skin, organs and even bones. Giants are able to survive on a surprisingly small amount of food if the need arises although this will inevitably begin to weaken them to the point of being unable to support their own weight.
