The New Gods
During the most recent millennia, in the relatively peaceful times that have been felt in the Material Plane, several entities have grasped the opportunity to start or grow their own base of worship.
Most of them already powerful on their own right, the extra power provided by mortal worship turns them into demigods, some gathering enough power to almost challenge certain deities of the Pantheon.
Information about these deities is hard to come by, and often unreliable, but the more powerful entities that have caught the attention of scholars are the following:
Deity | Alignment | Divine domains | Description | Holy symbol |
---|---|---|---|---|
Twinklebottom, the Leading Light | Chaotic Neutral | Trickery, Arcana | Leads travellers to safety or danger, according to what bargains they may have struck | Unknown |
Fjadrif, the Everlasting | True Neutral | Nature, Order | Compulsively fosters balance in every aspect of the universe | Unknown |
Elias, the Eternal Searcher | Neutral Evil | Knowledge | Obsessed with understanding everything, by any means necessary | A pair of multi-lensed spectacles |
Aldrich, the Gatekeeper | Lawful Evil | Grave, Blood | Aggressively watches over the line that divides life and death. Abhors undeath of any kind | An ornate set of three keys |
Andais, the Queen of What-Lies-Beyond | Lawful Evil | Death, Blood, War | Flamboyant goddess of death, patron of necromancers. Holds the souls of those she sees as talented to serve her in many ways | An incredibly complex necromantic rune |
Under the radar
Worship of the New Gods is mostly restricted to small, word-of-mouth based cults, spread out through the world, with no real hierarchy or centralised organisation. Some have even gotten to this state largely by accident, their worshippers nothing more than unforeseen consequences of their actions in the material plane. Due to this, they are largely ignored by both the governments and political forces of the Material Plane, and by the prime deities of the Pantheon. However, the rapid ascension of certain cults is slowly drawing attention to them. The New Gods know this, and are perfectly aware that their continued existence relies on keeping a low profile, at the very least until they are powerful enough to stand up to the prime deities if necessary.Remove these ads.
