THE RISING NORTHERN STAR
"Arise, o youth of thy nation. Arise and beckon forth a new age of man.
-From the Eulogy of Alistair vus'Bryon, First of his Name, and Progenitor to the Imperial Nation of Bryonsworth
Across the vast, arid plains of
Uros and upon the northern peninsula in the west, sits the young
Empire of Bryonsworth. Founded under the military might and diplomacy of
The House of Bryon, led by
Alistair The Progenitor, a man who both conquered and united the various city-states and duchies under the consolidated rule of a single nation. Within his lifetime, he accomplished much, yet it was the seeds he left behind that would truly flourish. As the foundation laid began to grow into a force far greater than anything those of
Bryonworth could have accomplished alone.
In the years following its birth, the world looked upon the nation with cautious eyes. Unsure of what implications it's existence it would hold for the continent, or if it could even survive the hostile warring nature of
Uros. It wasn't until they emerged victorious from
The First Border War with
Duma that the
Empire earned its legitimacy. Proving themselves capable of defending their own against even
The Southern Behemoth.
From there the nation only continued to grow, claiming a large sum of land after their victory over
Duma and experiencing their largest boom in immigration. Reaping the full benefit of additional laborers tending to the agricultural industry as well as a massive surge of educated workers flooding the capital,
Bryonsworth began to make unprecedented leaps. Progressing socially, economically and technologically at a per capita rate far surpassing all but
The Republic Isles to the East. Progress that eventually coalesced with the creation of the
Shoffen Engine, and the establishment of the innovative
Shoffenway. A series of tracks that connected the capital, the inner provinces, and the ports without relying on channels or waterways. It was this system that brought
Bryonsworth to the forefront of the world, bringing the nation into an unprecedented era of prosperity.
However, such massive strides were not without their fair share of troubles. As civil conflicts and other threats to the
Outer Provincial Lands have led to the creation of the
Outrider Knights, while foreign relations with
Duma seem on the brink of complete and utter collapse.
Now, with war appearing all but inevitable and recently annexed city-states preparing for a revolution, the nation of
Bryonsworth stands on the precipice of a new dawn, poised to either establish their position as one of the world's fastest-growing empires or to simply fade away into the sands of time.
Yet while history will always remember and recount the treacherous political intrigue and glorious tales of legends, it has always been the plight of the common man that slips between the cracks. The lives of those unimportant and inconsequential to the flow of time. The story of those who fought day in and day out for survival, simply to die cold, alone and helpless. Those who faced the greatest struggle to cling to life, faced with a meaningless death doled out on the whim of an uncaring world.
These are the forgotten tales that will never be told.
