The Sol Directive Alliance
The Sol Directive Alliance (SDA) is a strict and secretive conglomerate of twelve major and numerous smaller corporations heavily invested in Research and Development. The SDA pushes for technological progress in the name of pursuing humanity's future. Famous for making household chores a thing of the past, creating incredibly efficient killing machines and augmenting biology to challenge even the concepts of divinity, the SDA is both feared and craved by the denizens of this solar system.
While each individual company has its own HQ within the Inner Rim, the SDA itself maintains a loose grip on major settlements in the Outer Rim, but focuses its power on Io, their small but heavily fortified moon stronghold. By basing themselves in the Outer Rim, the SDA aims to avoid EUS regulations and sell easily to the discerning buyer on Outer Rim stations and the various moon colonies. Especially if that buyer plans to buy in bulk. Ask anyone why the Outer Rim warlords are so well armed and watch as they shrug nervously and glance over their shoulder.
Though technically not a military power in the classical sense, the SDA employs several private militias and security forces, which they arm, train and foster fervent loyalty from. While the numbers of this mercenary army are dwarfed by the EUS, their training and equipment is enough to give even the mighty EUS pause. In fact, most consider the EUS the second standing military power in the system. As such, the EUS has a standing agreement with the SDA to respect a vague border along the asteroid belt.

History
Prior to the start of the SDA many separate corporations and research initiatives competed to pioneer new technology. After the EUS expansion and discovery of zendikite the High Ruling Council of the EUS deemed it necessary to unify scientific efforts in the system. After briefly attempting to start a scientific branch of the EUS military, the corporate powers that funded these previously competing research and development efforts decided it was more advantageous to collaborate outside of EUS interference. This was the beginning of the Sol Directive Aliance
Demography and Population
Scientists focused on research and development no matter how morally disgraceful
Businessmen focused on sale and promotion of their products
Mercenaries armed for massacre and focused on die hard protection of the SDA's assets
Though the SDA is officially headquartered on Jupiter's moon Io and holds power on many outer rim settlements, their relationship with the denizens of the outer rim is as strained as it is mutually beneficial. The warlords and pirates love to maintain their arsenals with discount SDA weaponry and the SDA is happy to take their money. However the Warlords and pirates are incredibly territorial and distrustful of outsiders, this creates hefty friction between the rulers of the various moons and the SDA research efforts on their land or in their space.
Loyalty is not something the SDA comes by naturally and to compensate for this lack of inspiration the SDA offers access to their extensive resources.
Research facilities are very well funded, their security forces are armed from the SDA personal armory, business representatives travel and live in luxury. Considering the vast coffers at the disposal of the SDA it is hardly surprising that rather than inspire loyalty they buy it.
The SDA fleet is relatively small but intended for fast response to potential scientific anomalies as well as defense from the potentially hostile rulers of outer rim moons. As such the average SDA research vessel is equipped to the teeth with weapons, research tech and the fastest engines in Sol
Though never officially involved in any military operations, some wonder what happened on Io when the SDA landed. There was once a documented Giecomb presence, as well as several unaffiliated human settlements but within a month only the SDA remained.
