The poem "Beware The Doom" is a large circular poem, as per
Brandaran Poem Forms, which comes in two variations, and discusses the results of the appearance of the Doom, the accepted response to these results, and the consequence of not responding appropriately.
Variation One: Physical
The first variation of "Beware The Doom" is a response to the
physical Doom, the one which enters the Brandaran sky every eighth year during
the Year of Doom. This variant speaks of the physical effects of the object- the cold which oppresses Brandara and the often-occurring hypothermic death- and the age-old response to it's appearance- fleeing to warmer regions (though this method is outdated due to modern, more viable discoveries).
Variation Two: Emotional
The second variation of "Beware The Doom" is a response to the mental and emotional effects of the Doom on the sapient population- the draining of energy and happiness, replaced by lethargy, fear, even depression as loved ones surrender to the cold. This variant reminds the audience not to lose that which
the Lost did during the Circles of Doom, that which is so precious to Brandara- hope; hope for a new day, a better life, an end to all things painful, something that is necessary to remain sane during the Year of Doom and not resign one's self to the darkness.
