The Blood Flu

The Blood flu is a terrifying disease, that is hard to catch but easy to spread. Caused by a species of red vine called blood vines that are only found in swamp lands and are actually quite rare, very few outbreaks have occurred. But the ones that do are bloody and horrifying. The parasites found on the vine cause you to bleed from your eyes ears and nose, and, at the final stage, your pores. Once you bleed from your pores, all hope is lost for you. Since so little is actually known about the disease since it is so rare and so contagious, there is no cure, and it is 100% fatal with out cleric intervention. But the parasites spread so fast and so efficiently that stopping it is nearly an impossible task. Most of the time a town infected will be quarantined and left to die, abandoned until the parasites die out, which without a living host takes around 2 weeks.
If you or anyone you travel with falls victim to the blood vines gas, start saying your prayers and making your peace because there is little hope for you left.

Prognosis

The disease takes 7-14 days to start causing symptoms
Stage One:The first three days of symptoms-You will start with nose bleeds and a fever with a slight cough and sneezing
Stage Two:Your sixth seventh and eighth day of symptoms-Your ears and eyes will bleed, you will get diarrhea and your fever cough and sneezing will worsen
Stage Three: Your ninth and tenth day of symptoms-Your cough sneeze and fever go away, your bleeding worsens and it comes from your pores as well, and you die on the tenth day or soon after.

It spreads through touch during the week long gestation period, all hell breaks loose when the sneezing and coughing starts.

History

Many die in the swamp alone to it, there are three abandoned towns on the country of Godios near the swamp lands in between Godios and Plekea.

Cultural Reception

People are quick and ready to abandon those plagued by the blood flu, though it is usually to late. Most cities and governments have protocols to keep victims locked in their town to die and save the rest of the country.

The Blood Vines themselves are surrounded by legends. Many believe the hags of the forest created them to keep civilizations away from their swamps. Some say an evil Plekean king created them and that is why they only grow on the southern part of the swamp closer to Godios, and some believe a devil left the plant in it's place to take over the world.

Little is known of the blood flu, and scientists are too frightened of causing an epidemic to study something so dangerous and something so little is known about. Many have tried and many have died.
