Osilorarin

The Polar Bear People Language   (Poly?)synthetic

Writing System

Osilorarin Written Language
The Osilorarin writing system started with Orisolan marking stuff down by carving into the soft bark of the trees, and particularly the ______ tree.   There are two forms, the Traditional syllabic form, and the simplified alphabet. Traditional is a slyablry, simplified is an alphabet. Simplified conveys tone with marks below syllables with a pitch accent, and words written from left to right, with spaces separating words.   Words are each their own line, which are read bottom to top, left to right.

Syllabic Structure

Syllable: V(C) or (C)V with no consonant or vowel clustering Vowels always have at least one consent between them, but can start or end words.

Tone

Class
There are 8 cases (see Syntax), specifically: Genitive, Adessive, Superessive, Inessive, Nominative, Accusative, Dative, and Instrumental. Combined with the 4 noun classes, this makes about 32 different suffixes for nouns, shown below. If a stem ends with a vowel, the glottal stop, /ʔ/ is inserted in between the stem and the ending.
Class 1 Class 2 Class 3 Class 4
Nomative /-or/ /-ɛn/ /-ad/ /-kɵ/
Accusative /-oɹ/ /-ɛd/ /-aɢ/ /-tɵ/
Genative /-is/ /-an/ /-ʌl/ /-ɔd/
instrumental /-ʎu/ /-ni/ /-da/ /-sɵ/

Supressive /-nu/ /-nʌ/ /-vɔ/ /-vo/
Inessive /-ru/ /-nʌ/ /-sɔ/ /-so/

Gramatical Number
To indicate number, a prefix is added at the start of a noun. If a stem starts with a consonant, the vowel /u/ is inserted in between the prefix and the stem   The grammatical numbers are:
  • singular
  • two /duple
  • three/trial
  • mass

Class 1 Class 2 Class 3 Class 4
Single /ip-/ /ip-/ /iɹ-/ /is-/

Author's Notes

On the website, mostly the simplified version of the writing system will be used because I don't want to learn to type the traditional version with the font I make.   1 "A historical past tense, used for events perceived as historical, is found in, for example, the Amazonian Cubeo language." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatical_tense#Possible_tenses   I made up story telling tense, but if there's a historical tense, why not have a tense for a probably fictional story? Like A long time ago in a galaxy far far away tense I guess
