Viridia

Atop the sparkling yellow sands of the Glass Dunes, stood a monument of what once was the most powerful empire in all of bolkaia. The dazzling glass towers and buildings dwarfed the sprawling villages and houses outside the castle walls, the gargantuan show of opulence and ego would not stand forever, as the story of Viridia and the Viridian Empire is not a tale of happy endings.

History

First established by Vidrio Erem in the year 1319, viridia began as a small group of glassblowers and craftsmen who were tired of everyday village life. They established a small settlement on the edge of the glass dunes, and began to sell small crafts made of glass. Noticing that both the quanitity and quality of the glass within the sands increased the further into the desert they went, they trekked for miles to establish a more permanant colony on the edge of a small desert lake.   Vidrio, leading this expedition, had the small town of Viridia named after him, and began creating beautiful works of art with the high quality shards of glass that form in the dunes. Viridia grew faster than any other city on the plane, as people flocked to the small village to admire the works of Vidrio. The immigrants from around the world brought with them materials, and more and more desert settlements began to spring up, and the influence of Vidrio began to spread far and wide.   Before he knew it, Vidrio was crowned king of the Viridian Empire, and although unprepared for the position of ruler, he began to command the multitudes of people within his empire, and demanded rapid expansion. Hundreds of cities were established (or conquered), quickly cementing The Viridian Empire as the most influential state in Bolkaia.   For years, this immense power remained, as Vidrio began to research into otherworldly forms of magic, and became obsessed with the potential to live forever. His obsession grew into madness, as he ordered his highest ranking subjects to bring him rarer and rarer components, in hopes that he would find the secret to lichdom.   Unbeknownst to Vidrio, the convergence would mark the end of the Viridian empire, as the influx of other people, along with entire nation states into the political cacophony of the world, would cause the destabilisation and destruction of the Empire. Two years after the convergence, in a desperate move to regain power over his empire, Vidrio consumed a powerful poison in a dark ritual to attempt to achieve lichdom. Unfortunately for him, this toxin would quickly end his life, and not be the supposed toxin required to become a lich.   Very quickly, towns became abandoned as word of their emperor's passing spread fast, and cities were left to sink beneath the shifting sands of The Glass Dunes.
