The Glass Dunes

Geography

The Glass Dunes is a Semi-Arid desert found in the south of Lornia which stretches approximately 250km longditudinally, and 400km laterally.
The Glass Dunes consists of stretching plains of rolling sand hills, and gets its name from the ping-pong ball sized chunks of green glass peppered throughout the sands.

Ecosystem

The Glass Dunes is mostly populated with burrowing creatures with hard scales or carapaces. The sharp pieces of glass within some of the deeper layers of sand can be a deadly obstacle for softer skinned creatures, which tend to burrow quite shallowly. 
Monsters such as Ankhegs, Purple Worms, Blue Dragons, Umber Hulks, and other insectoid creatures infest the sands, and catch prey by burrowing underneath them to strike.

Localized Phenomena

The Glass Dunes exhibit a unique phenomena when it storms as the chunks of glass seem to contain some sort of conductive material that attracts lightning. When struck by lighning, the nearby glass begins to glow bright blue, and essentially acts as a battery for a short time. Certain highly-energised shards can also be used as a spellcasting focus, and if enough is collected can replace some material components for some spells.
Occasionally, if a storm rolls through the desert, large shards of glass can be swept into tornadoes and create what is known as 'Cutwinds', deadly twisters that have taken the lives of many unfortunate enough to end up within them.

Fauna & Flora

Plant life in The Glass Dunes is apparent, but not abundant. Short blades of grass grow in the sandy dirt, and cacti are found scattered frequently.

History

In the middle of where The Glass Dunes is now, once stood a great glass city named Viridia. Established many years before the convergence, Viridia would stand as the largest city ever seen in bolkaia. Its reach across Bolkaia was staggering, and its ruler, King Erem, was worshipped by many. The Viridian's undying devotion to their king would eventually push him to partake in a botched ritual in which he attempted to ascend to lichdom.
