Sea Death

It was a pretty known condition. After all, every sailor knew about sea death, but it wasn't the sea that killed ya. You were dead long before then. It always started with the weakness. A terrible weakness that overtook the body. It made things like managing sails to be much more difficult. Then the hair started to fall out and you'd get sores all over you. That's what happened to them. All of them. A whole boat of them. A curse, they said. I say it is no curse. I think it has to do with your belly and not gettin' the right food in ya. If you get the right food in them, it won't be a probably. After all. No one ever gets the Sea Death on my ships.

At one point in time, Sea Death was the bane of every Merchant Vessel sailing for Ceros. It was thought that extended trips violated the gods of the sea and thus they cursed the sailors and prevented them from living a full life. Extended trips with the bland diet provided to them left sailors with sores covering their bodies and a crippling fatigue that very well killed many. It wasn't until recent days that an apothecary by the name of Jaylin Morrows hypothesized the cause to be something much more mundane. He has since made a fortune on the sales of his Sea Death cure.

Causes

Sea Death is caused by malnutrition. While there were myths and rumors saying it was a curse or some magical ailment, research deduced that the symptoms were similar to those seen in the malnourished street urchins and those left to care for themselves in their old age.

Treatment

While thought to be incurable, it was recently discovered that a simple supplement of citrus and potatoes to the diet can keep away Sea Death. Many do not believe that the cure could be something as simple as diet and have thus turned to Jaylin Morrows for the answer to their problems. While Jaylin is rather open about other options for treatment, his business thrives.

Symptoms

  • fatigue
  • loss of appetite
  • sore muscles
  • bleeding gums
  • tooth loss
  • open sores on extremities
  • hair loss
  • irritability
  • weight loss
